President Donald Trumps Mar-a-Lago resort has been granted 70 visas to bring in foreign workers for the winter season, The Palm Beach Post reports.
Thats a 9 percent increase from last year, when Mar-a-Lago hired 64 workers under the H-2B visa program. The new visas will go to 20 foreign cooks, 35 waiters and 15 maids and housekeepers for the 2017-18 tourist season, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Theyll earn hourly wages from $10.33 (for the cleaners) to $13.34 (for the cooks). The temporary visas allow them to work from October 2017 to the end of May 2018.
A hallmark of Trumps presidential campaign and a stated push of his administration is that U.S. companies should hire American workers. He has criticized Ford Motor Company, Carrier Corp. and others for moving manufacturing jobs to Mexico. Mar-a-Lago was applying for the foreign worker visas this July when the president launched Made in America Week.
Trump said at the time, We believe jobs must be offered to American workers first. Does that make sense?

Hard to imagine thst these jobs cannot be filled by Americans. So why this?
Actually, winter seasonal positions at low wages can be hard to fill.... but it should certainly be looked into whether they can be filled at home, first.
Not awkward, just another example of MSM missing the point. Firstly, they are seasonal jobs, during a span which even college kids can’t work. Secondly, one MUST advertise the job several times in the local papers, as well as other states if the Charlie Foxtrot DOL deams it necessary (we have to advertise in MA, PA, and NY). Lastly, with housing and prevailing wage, it is not cheaper. I don’t know what minimum wage is in FL, but my guess it’s mess that $10 + housing.
They also left out how many American employees work at Maralago.
How do you know this wasn’t done? What is the % of the jobs filled by foreigners vs those filled by domestic workers?
How many of them will be illegal?
How many of them will be ISIS?
How many of them will be having anchor babies?
Hard, but not impossible. All a matter of compensation.
They have been doing this since at least 2008. This is seasonal work, since Mar-a-Lago isn't open during the summer season. Since the workers are temps, and returning to their home countries (mostly Romania and Haiti) for the summer, there isn't any cost to US taxpayers educating their children and unemployment payments in the off season. (Florida taxpayers are shelling out about $9K annually to pay for public education for each illegal and legal immigrant's child.)
How many of them will be illegal?
How many of them will be ISIS?
How many of them will be having anchor babies
deserves to be sed again!
Fair enough. How many Americans do work at Mar-a-Lago?
So? If Americans don’t apply, what else do you do? Common sense hiring, to me.
I believe that “visa jobs” should pay the prevailing wage plus 10% and come with a 10% tax on the company.
If they're coming in on H-2B visas then none of them will be illegal. The President is not breaking the law with this.
Yep. Fake News is awkward, but it’s MSN so I expect it.
None, none and none. Theres no pearl clutching on Free Republic.
As long as the go back home after the winter season is over...
Raise the salaries to attract them? Mar-a-Lago is offering $13.34 per hour for cooks. That's about $28,000 per year and is roughly the average salary for chefs in the area. But that average takes into account all cooks, from short order cooks to chefs in the finest establishments, which Mar-a-Lago purports to be. Average salaries for chefs at the upper scale establishments is more like $39,000. So this is cost savings. Americans don't apply because Mar-a-Lago isn't offering prevailing compensation. They are going for H-2B visa because they don't want to pay Americans not that they can't find them.
Mar-a-Lago isn't in the middle of Yosemite. It's in a large urban area with a sizable local workforce. It could attract local people if it increased salaries enough to interest them.
What's fake about it? Are you saying Mar-a-Lago isn't applying for all those H-2B visas?
So why is this good and an H-1B working for Disney bad?
