Late Friday morningArmy Judge Col. Jeffery R. Nance ruled Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl will not face prison time for walking off his base eight years ago and abandoning his platoon mates.
Bergdahl's defense argued he has been punished enough by being held captive by the Taliban, which radio traffic showed he purposely sought out, and shouldn't be subjected to further captivity. Nance bought it and Bergdahl will simply face a dishonorable discharge, have his rank stripped and will pay $10,000.
Good men died searching for Bergdahl. Here are their names.

But the consequences for Bergdahl's actions don't end with these brave men. The damage he did is far reaching and extensive.
Tragically, there were MANY more wounded & killed than this. Air assets were diverted from Troops in Contact so they could look for him. https://t.co/qIda5FPnKy— Sean Parnell (@SeanParnellUSA) November 3, 2017
Hard to overstate how much Bergdahl disrupted operations across the entire country for the better part of a year, w/ consequences like these https://t.co/60OTt8oJ1X— James Hasson (@JamesHasson20) November 3, 2017
And how about the five Taliban commanders President Obama let out of GITMO in a trade for Bergdahl? What are they up to?
The U.S. military and intelligence community now suspect that one of the five Taliban detainees released from Guantanamo Bay in return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in May of last year has attempted to return to militant activity from his current location in Qatar by making contact with suspected Taliban associates in Afghanistan, multiple officials tell CNN.
The development has led to an ongoing debate inside the administration about whether there is a new threat from this man, and potentially the other four.
Disgrace.
Col. Nance should be cashiered from the service. Dishonorably discharged, marked for life for this failure.
But will he? Based on Trump’s tweet, he should.
I really doubt this wretched judges decision would have been any different even if Trump had said nothing.
It was Trumps fault. Nance indicated so
Doesnt mean Nuance should have pulled this stunt
Trump has to learn criminal process. .he cant wildly tweet inflammatory things that will taint process.. Gives defense room to move
I suspect you may be right..he just laid the blame at trumps feet
And it could happen with Isis lover truck driver in nyc
No doubt about it.
Which proves he defected or intended to defect to the enemy, and you can damn well bet the employee of the Muslim brotherhood B. Hussein knew that but he went ahead anyway and freed those 5 Taliban commanders. It was all a SCAM designed solely to once again assist the enemy, once again another hardcore example of treason by "The One".
I am of the firm belief that not only did Bergdahl desert, seek out, and join the enemy he also aided and abetted the enemy which resulted in American casualities. Proof of this is the very fact that he was not killed while in their company. What Bergdahl did is worthy of a firing squad composed of real soldiers. What the judge did should qualify him for a firing squad also. This injustice needs to be set right one way or another. It cannot be allowed to stand.
Just last week Nance (inappropriately) said that Trump’s comments would have no affect on his decision. So much for that JAGoff’s honor.
He should be put on a jihadi watch list for the rest of his life. Not that the FBI or DHS does a damn thing with those lists.
Probably not... but a smart CG that wants to move up might....
Agree, this is a disgraceful travesty of justice.
But, the judge is the judge. It’s done.
What sentence? They let him go instead of hanging him.
Can’t get excited about the lack of severity of the Bergdahl punishment when there is someone who committed high treason by selling uranium to the enemy profits from it financially and goes unpunished. Why is HRC not held accountable? Different strokes for different folks? She may be the cause that the next generation gets nuked with our own uranium.
America, get your priorities straight.
“He makes Arnold Benedict look like a principled fellow.”
My feelings, exactly.
How can so many be blind to the truth?
I think it is time for one of us to take up the mantle for justice. One of us should find him, torture him, then kill him.
Radio news at 4:30 mentioned those who were injured looking for Bergdahl. They said nothing about those who died! Usually I get to my radio faster to turn it off before the so-called news comes on.
He should. Some of us are angry enough to find him, torture him for months, then kill him.
