Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has long supported Russian President Vladimir Putin on social media, but Thursday afternoon, he took it a step further with an Instagram post, announcing the creation of a social movement in support of Putin that hes labeling the Putin Team.
Personal achievements and medals all of this great, but in hockey, like with everything, to win its important to have a team. Only a team is capable of changing the course of a game, achieve the impossible, Ovechkin said in the post, which was translated by The Washington Post. Lately, in the Western Press, Im noticing a comparison to Putins team. And you know, I really liked that comparison. Personally, Im ready to be a member of that team. I never hid my relationship with our president, always openly supported him.
Ovechkin continued: Im certain that there are many of us that support Vladimir Putin. Lets unite and show everyone a strong and united Russia. Today, I want to announce a social movement in the name of Putin Team. Be a part of this team to me its a privilege, its like the feeling of when you put on the jersey of the Russian team, knowing that the whole country is rooting for you....

Works for me.
Current opposition presidential candidates are jokes. They’re in it for publicity.
Should Putin run for a fourth term, he will win.
The good news for President Trump is that Ovechkin plays for the Washington Capitals, who won’t be visiting the White House as Stanley Cup champions anytime soon. :-P
Score a meaningful playoff goal..
Russian
LOSER
Caps and the Nats are perennial chokes once they get to the playoffs ...
He is a Russian and a great hockey player. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.
Freedom of speech, just like the National Felon League.
Right, except that Ovechkin is not getting political in his team uniform on his team owners time. And he is not being disrespectful towards anyone. Completely different from NFL losers.
This will do terrible things to Putin’s plus-minus.
Oh wait, I'm a Red Wings fan.
: (
Ovechkin tweeted in Russian for his fellow citizens back home. I assume he’ll campaign for his candidate when he’s back in the Russian Federation.
Hes a multi-millionaire member of Putins circle of Oligarchs and professional athletes. A great talent but a self-absorbed punk.
What is he supposed to do? Denounce his own country?
Ridiculous post.
He’s the star on the DC team also. Heads are going to explode there!
