European Arrest Warrants are being sought for others including the ousted Catalan President Carles Puigdemont.
The leadership of the Catalan police, dismissed last weekend, are also under investigation.
The EU has big problem on their hands..........

NOBODY expects the Spanish inquisition!
It looks like the Old World is committing suicide—when in the history in the world did “leaders” invite millions of hostiles to invade their territory—and then attack their own citizens as “haters” when they objected?
In the old days mobs would have stormed the castle and hung the king and his court from the nearest tree.
I just started reading about the old Spanish Empire. Catalonia has been disinterested in being part of Spain for a _long_ time.
Was the election they had a fair election? I think so but I’m not sure. I don’t think Madrid “authorized” it, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fair.
Had a friend who visited Spain back in Franco’s time. He said no one even thought of messing with the Guardia Civil. The sillier that hat, the tougher the guy wearing it.
The election was disputed by national police here and there but it came off well enough.
Those opposed to independence didn’t show up for the most part and of those who showed to vote (43 percent turnout) the vote was 90 percent for independence and 10 percent against.
Nigel Farage observed that public opinion in Catalonia was split on the issue, but he thinks the crackdown by the police at polling stations with 900 injured on October 1st probably added support to the independence side.
He expressed shock at the notion that police would try to stop people from participating in an election.
Nations move to protect the integrity of their territory. It’s kind of part of their job.
In the past these people would have had a date with a blindfold and cigarette at dawn being on the losing end.
Well, it is 2017. They held a vote on a political issue they supported. What they did was little different than Brexit and no different from similar votes in Scotland or Kosovo. Don’t recall a bunch of Scots going to the tower for supporting separation. If they took up arms after losing, maybe, but these people didn’t do that. They supported a democratic process to separate, the central government said it wasn’t legal, and they didn’t start a revolution in response. They supported continuing to work for peaceful separation. It will not end well to make that region an oppressed subject state of the Madrid central government.
Being the current year is irrelevant.
The Spanish government said the vote was illegal, and they would not recognize the result.
Brexit, and Scotland were sanctioned votes in the legal framework they took place in. Kosovo was done at the point of a gun towards Serbia.
After the Catolonia legislatior had their UDI vote, Spain, acting within actual Spanish law, moved in and asserted control of the government.
There are no gold stars because they went through with their independence attempt. They quickly found out that they crossed a bridge and didn’t anticipate that Spain was seriously so to use their legal powers to shut this stuff down.
When they decided to do this in defiance of the law, they were technically in revolt. And here we are.
They can either make a statement in December, and let Spain make the next more, or they shoot.
