On November 2, 1917, exactly 100 years ago, British foreign secretary Lord Arthur Balfour sent a private letter to Lord Walter Rothschild, the second Baron Rothschild. The letter was written not by Balfour, but by other ministers in Lloyd George's Cabinet – Lord Alfred Milner and Leopold Amery. In history, this letter became known as the Balfour Declaration.
Both Balfour and Milner were true Britons. Rothschild was proud of being a Jew. Amery was a Jew who carefully concealed his Jewish origins.
What united this quartet? All of them were, of course, to some degree, Zionists, but only to the extent that such was in the interests of the British Empire. Otherwise, the Declaration would never have happened.
The main thing is that they were all members of the Conservative Party of the United Kingdom.

Just to prove that the Paleostinians are not a mature society, ready for negotiation, compromise, Democracy, free thinking and tolerance and open negotiations, they have been demanding that the British government apologize for making that declaration 100 years ago.
When these morons, the PLO, HAMAS & Co. grow up and join the rest of the advancing planet, maybe, just maybe there may be peace.

Practical considerations led to Israel starting as a socialist state. They had to absorb immigrants from scores of countries, speaking dozens of different languages, and unite them. They had to create a new language (a speaking version of Hebrew). Hundreds of thousands of war refugees/Holocaust survivors immigrated penniless. This may not have justified every socialist policy (e.g. labor union political party) but is understandable when you consider the social cost of absorbing tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands per year into a country of only a few hundred thousand (in the early years).
Article leaves out a lot of information, regardless of which side you stand Israel will remain a state, but in 1917 less than 10% of the population of Palestine was jewish. The revival of Hebrew as a language outside of liturgical text had only been revived since the 188o’s. It had not been a spoken language since the second century AD. The day to day language spoken by Ashkenazi jews up until then had been yiddish, a german dialect.
I often wonder what Hebrew really sounded like almost 2000 yrs ago, it would be a bit like reviving Latin as a spoken language.
