White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed questions from the media about White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kellys comments about the Civil War.
When asked by reporters if the White House thought that the comments were offensive, Sanders replied No.
Because you dont like history, doesnt mean that you can erase it and pretend that it didnt happen, she said. I think thats the point that General Kelly was trying to make, and to try to create something and push a narrative that simply doesnt exist is just, frankly, outrageous and absurd.
Kelly said in an interview with Laura Ingraham that he believed it was wrong to judge historical figures by modern standards, and defended Civil War general Robert E. Lee as an honorable man.

Sarah doe a great job.
Yes, she does.
Revisionism right out of “1984”
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered.
And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped.
Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right....George Orwell, “1984”
The Taliban Left in America wants to blow up all the statues that go against their religion.
Oppression doesn't bother these types. They're sure they'll be on the side doing the oppressing.
Academic rigor is an alien concept in American schools and universities.
Don’t like the facts? Change or ignore the facts.
I watched her in action yesterday and really admire her ability to deal with the idiots of the press with firmness and respect. I think being a Mom is perhaps the best possible training. Lucky to have her in that job, and she seems to actually enjoy it!
Bump
Sarah is right up there with Tony Snow. She’s a classic. She is really quick on her “feet” (brain!!).
ONE reason I may go along with my husband’s desire to return to Cable TV is so I could watch Sarah Sanders live!!!
Love Sarah - I especially like it when everyone keeps repeating the same question or some variation of it & she says “I’ve already answered that” and when the press keeps coming back to what she’s answered, it’s “have a nice day” and the daily brief is over.
“Sarah doe a great job.”
Truly! I loved it when the critters were badgering her about Mueller getting Manafort. She said, “That has nothing to do with us.” Period. Case closed. Wonderful.
Here's the one from yesterday:
THANK YOU....
The statues were put up to change the facts and revise the history.
The basic fact of the matter is that a civil was fought over slavery and the South lost that war.
These statues were not erected at the time of the civil war.
They came later. Many were put up at the time of Jim Crow and the Civil Rights movement.
“”Lucky to have her in that job, and she seems to actually enjoy it!””
I think it was on Huckabee’s new TV show that he was asked the question - “If you were president, what role would Sarah Huckabee Sanders have in your administration?”
His answer - “Anything she wanted!”
Clean online has daily press briefing.
“...he believed it was wrong to judge historical figures by modern standards, ...”
This is very key when reading/studying history. Attempting to judge a man of say 1817 (or 1517) by the social norms of 2017 will leave you confused and frustrated. We are all a product of the era we are born into. There are certainly some moral absolutes that carry through the centuries, but things can get pretty gray and blurry as a man of 1817 would be completely lost in the social world of 2017. Us trying to judge him by 2017 standards is intellectually dishonest.
They already are; they are the oppressors.
