On “The 700 Club” this morning, televangelist Pat Robertson reacted to the news that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort had been indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller by calling on President Trump to issue a blanket pardon of everyone who might be implicated in the probe and to then shut down the investigation entirely.
Robertson claimed that Mueller’s investigation has been inexorably “tainted” by the fact that the Clinton campaign and DNC reportedly helped to fund an opposition research dossier during the campaign that alleged connections between the Trump campaign and Russia, insisting that any indictments that result from the Mueller’s investigation must therefore be dismissed and the investigation quashed.
Trump “can grant a pardon to everybody involved in this thing if he wants to,” Robertson said. “This whole thing has got to be shut down … He has every right to shut Mueller down and say, ‘You have gone as far as you need to and I have instructed my Justice Department to close you down.'”
“He can grant a blanket pardon for everybody involved in everything and say, ‘I pardon them all, it’s all over, case closed,'” Robertson continued. “I think that is what he needs to do … He’s got to shut this thing down, he’s just got to.”

When the NYT and a few other papers start suggesting Mueller should step down, there may be some pleasant weather ahead.

What are people afraid of that they’re advocating Trump preemptively pardon people for yet-unspecified transgressions?

Pardon power is absolute, there is no way the dims can get around it...unless potus is formally impeached

“Trump should pardon everyone” doesn’t solve the problem - whatever the problem is.
Trump is currently using this to highlight the need to investigate & prosecute Hillary et al: if 12-year-old paperwork violations are enough to get someone arrested, then 9-figure bribes to the Secretary of State should be promptly investigated and the guilty hanged.
Pardon power of the president is limited to federal crimes. That’s why it has been interesting to see Mueller collaborate with the NY AG. It may be an attempt to circumvent Trump’s ability to intervene with a pardon.
Why do I care that Manafort has been indicted?
Why should other GOP supporeters care.
I read the entire 31 page indictment, and it is clear that he has been doing as charged, large scale money laundering, hiding assets in foreign banks, lying to mortgage companies.
All of this happened well before he was hired by Trump, who hired him for a particular job, and fired him only two months later, when that job - delegate wrangling - was complete.
Perhaps Mueller should resign, but I don't see any reason for Trump to support Manafort - who is merely a common criminal who got caught.
The best defense is an offense. He should *instruct* Sessions to appoint a Special Prosecutor to look into the Clinton Foundation. Maybe a couple, another for the emails.
Old fashioned Conservative: the laws mean what they say and apply equally to everyone, weak and powerful.
Manafort knew damn well he was cheating his taxes for years, he just thought he was too smart and well connected to ever get caught.
No sympathy from me, and I hope none from Trump either.

BINGO! We have a winner. Even a Trump Pardon, which will be viewed as completely illegitimate by most people (because it would be), would only result in Manafort being prosecuted for similar charges in NY State.
I wouldn’t be taking advice from Pat Robertson. He’s been saying some wacky things in recent years.
President Trump should listen to the pastor but NOT a ‘blanket’ pardon that could be interpreted as including HilLIARy, SorozNazi, DNC, DebbieWSchultz,Obama etc.

I for one would LOVE to see him issue some “F-U” pardons, just to watch the dems heads explode.
as stated above Mueller is working with NY State AG to try and get around the presidents stated constiutional authority
My concern is that they may coerce Manafort into “confessing” to knowledge of Trump wrongdoing of some kind. This is a witch hunt after all and that’s how a witch hunt works. The pardon power needs to be laid out there on the table imo but gently.
