BREAKING: Former Trump campaign adviser pleads guilty to lying to FBI

One of President Trump's former advisers from his presidential campaign has pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents investigating allegations of collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and the Russian government, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Monday .

George Papadopolous, the 30-year-old foreign policy adviser, pleaded guilty earlier this month, according to court filings unsealed on Monday. The DOJ unsealed the documents shortly after it announced charges against two other higher-ranking, Trump campaign officials — Paul Manafort and Rick Gates.

Prosecutors charged Papadopolous with lying to investigators about his conversations with a foreign professor who told him that Russians had thousands of emails containing "dirt" on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The Trump aide allegedly told the FBI that those conversations happened before he joined the campaign, statements rebutted by the Justice Department's timeline.

Whoa. If this guy is charged, then Hill better watch out!

Hill as in Hillary? There are some people here that are truly living in wishful-thinking land. No Hillary people are going to be indicted by Mueller. Mueller and his people are specifically assembled to bring down Trump. They are a bunch of anti-Trumpers and Democrats out to destroy this administration.

Trump should have fired Mueller as soon as this nonsense got started - now with a guilty plea and 2 additional people charged it will be near impossibly to shut this witch hunt down.

A 30 year old low level "policy adviser" trying to set up a meeting with the Russian government and the Trump campaign. It never happened but Papadopoulus lied to the FBI initially about his contacts and meetings. It shows no Russian collusion, but rather an attempt to reset relations with the Russians who were at the time helping us negotiate and sign the Iran Deal.

The DNC sent a delegation to the Ukraine to get dirt on Trump during the campaign. Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire-- Kiev officials are scrambling to make amends with the president-elect after quietly working to boost Clinton

United States President Barack Obama employed representatives and experts to hold secret high-level talks with Iran and Syria months prior to his election as president, organizers of the meetings told Agence France Presse on Monday.

Over the past few months, Obama campaign and election officials, as well as nuclear non-proliferation experts, had several "very, very high-level" contacts with Iranian leaders, according to Jeffrey Boutwell, executive director for the U.S. branch of the Pugwash group, a Nobel Prize-winning international organization of scientists. Former defense secretary William Perry, who served in Obama's election campaign, also participated in some of the meetings, which included discussions on Iran's nuclear program and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Though Boutwell refused to name other participants, he said they were senior figures in the Iranian and US governments.

Scooter Libby process crime. Still no proof of collusion with the Russians.

The FBI has always been corrupt, from its nose to its toes, mainly because of lack of oversight. Yeah, I know... Congress has oversight over almost all federal agencies. But congress has NO teeth do deal with corruption and/or other illegal activities by these agencies. And there's no way in hell that the FBI can be trusted to honestly investigate itself or its agents. So they can essentially get away with murder if the higher-ups will it.

Trump has his hands tied here people. He has to be very careful of how he interacts with the DOJ less they construe his actions to be obstruction.

Not talking about obstruction charges from the DOJ or even Mueller, but rather Congress. We often lose sight that there are enough so called Republicans that would love to be able to impeach him. They just need plausible cover.

My comment was a bit of sarcastic humor.

Maybe the new FBI director will put Hillary under oath when he asks her about those thousands of deleted government emails about Chelsea’s wedding paid for by our good friend Vlad and company.

“There is not charges for failing to answer their questions.”

There could be. Grand Juries are told to take into account whether someone took the fifth when discussing whether to indict. The fact they did is not admissible in trial court but it can be considered during indictment deliberations.

A bit off issue but something I never forgot: I was a witness accompanying a senior agent during discussions with an attorney who was representing the target of his inquiry. The attorney was cordial but in response to an invitation to let his client be interviewed he pointed to an enormous fish he had on a wall. He said to the agent, go look at the inscription on that plaque. The inscription said: I would not be here if I had not opened my mouth. The attorney said my client is not going to talk, he is not going to be indicted, he is not going to be convicted and he is not going to jail, goodbye. He was right!

In the 60s, that attorney's retainer was 50K and he earned that money with his simple theory, say nothing.

Yes, I think that’s the key. Trump was a hostile takeover of both the Republican Party and, eventually, the Federal Executive Branch. A hostile takeover. Washington D.C. would be a very happy place if they could expel him...and they only need a thin veneer to be able to try. The big problem they would have is that we get into very dangerous waters if they do try - as in a large swath of the country this would be considered overthrowing the duly elected government. Those stakes can be very high and the result extremely damaging, in a physical sense, to Washington D.C.

Yep. Say nothing. Prosecutors.. etc. are adept at getting people to forget that is what you are suppose to do. Most people know you arent suppose to talk..but they do it anyway

I don’t know the name. It is interesting to note that three of the participants in the Don Jr meeting had a relationship with Fusion GPS. This sounds like an elaborate setup by the Dems.
