With the resignation of Dana Boente on Friday as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, President Donald Trump has an opportunity to replace another Obama-era holdover in the Department of Justice line of succession. If Trump demands that the department fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and if enough officials resign or get fired rather than carry out his order, the decision to do so could fall to Boentes successor.
As Attorney General Jeff Sessions has told the Senate Judiciary Committee, Trump has been interviewing candidates for some of the 93 open U.S. attorney positions. Democratic lawmakers and legal analysts have claimed his involvement in that process is inappropriate. But the Eastern District of Virginia role is especially important, thanks to an executive order that Trump signed in March.
The order altered the line of succession at the top of the Justice Department. The order includes three U.S. attorneys, meaning that making departmental decisions such as whether to fire Mueller could fall on one of them. Mueller is overseeing the FBI investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible coordination with the Trump campaign.

So, who will take the fall for Saint Barry of the Southside?
The Mafia (democrats) won’t be happy about that more lies to ensue media grins.
Which Podesta?
If Mueller isn't going after Hillary, Comey, Rosenstein, Obama, himself and many others in the Deep State then he's not doing a full investigation. If that's the case a new Special Prosecutor, somebody other than Mueller, needs to be appointed by Sessions.
And I would add, that according to the informant's lawyer Victoria Tensing, a new Special Prosecutor needs to be appointed.
Mueller indicting Comey? You really think that Mueller will do that to his buddy?
Mueller is covering for Comey, Rosenstein himself and many others. Mueller will indict a few low level people, and these people will accept very minor plea deals.
That's the track record of Mueller and Rosenstein and Uranium One.
Yup.
And it's becoming a straw man argument by people who want to keep Mueller.
Of course Mueller isn't going after Trump. Trump is clean and the basis for going after Trump was the phony dossier.
Most likely Mueller is protecting the Deep State.
The press sucks... so biased they’re not even funny anymore.
Sounds a bit like Newsweek showing signs of turning on Mueller.
I've signed up for the all-night machine gun pits at RFK Stadium, but sure, you want choppers?
There's plenty of payload, and the Atlantic Ocean is only about 120 miles as the crow flies.
Got enough chain?
Exactly!
I am not so sure, the fact that Mueller has clear and convincing conflict of interest cuts both ways. It means that any case he brings forward can and will be challenged.
Probably why he was selected in the first place.
Well with the BS indictment of Manafort today its become clear that Mueller has nothing on Trump regarding the Russian collusion myth. Mueller is never going Togo against the Clinton’s or the DNC. Anybody trying to tell you that is delusional. Trump now has a clear path to shut this investigation down and direct Sessions to appoint a new special prosecutor to investigate the U1 scandal. It would not surprise me if that’s what this meeting with Sessions is all about.
