(KUTV) Senator Orrin Hatch basked in praise on Friday, speaking before a supportive crowd at the Women Tech Awards, downtown at the Grand America. Meantime, a report in The Atlantic, said Hatch has been telling friends he's leaving the Senate, to make way for a likely election victory for Mitt Romney.
"Right now, you are planning to run?" KUTV2News asked the senator. "I'm planning on running again," Hatch replied, but added what seemed to be two caveats.
First, concerns from his wife Elaine, who is against race number eight. "She's always worried about me," said Hatch. "Certainly I'm going to give great consideration to what she thinks, but as of right now, I'm planning on running." Then, there is Mitt Romney, whom Hatch has said he would like to see as his successor. "I've made a decision to run, unless my friend Mitt Romney calls me, and says he'd like to run," he said. "Then I think I'd gladly step aside."

People in UT couldn’t make it through a day without him!
[”I’ve made a decision to run, unless my friend Mitt Romney calls me, and says he’d like to run,” he said. “Then I think I’d gladly step aside.”]
COUNT ON IT.
Oh, how nauseating to think of Romney pontificating from the Senate.
If he runs, I think I’d support the Democrat, whoever it is, since Romney would never support anything Trump did anyway.
Oh, good gravy. Please go home, Mr. Hatch, and enjoy a few peaceful years with your family.
Is HATCH’S plan to delay his retirement a GOPe ploy to prevent prospective candidates (other than ROMNEY) from garnering support and contributions before the UTAH Primary?
“[Ive made a decision to run, unless my friend Mitt Romney calls me, and says hed like to run, he said. Then I think Id gladly step aside.]
Two problems with Mitt; although better than a Dem, only marginally so. He’s a big time Establishment swamp dweller. Also, Mitt is 70 years old. So, age wise not much of an improvement over ole Orrin. I’m guessing that should Orrin decide not to run with the expectation of a Mitt coronation as his successor he’s going to be in for a big surprise by a primary challenger or two...
Two words for what is in the plans for Orrin’s retirement.....
Romney Junior.
“Is HATCHS plan to delay his retirement a GOPe ploy to prevent prospective candidates (other than ROMNEY) from garnering support and contributions before the UTAH Primary?”
That’s what I was thinking. Keep a conservative/tea party candidate out. Result: you’re left with Mittens or the forty-third term of Orrin.
In OH, when it looked like Trump was going to win the primary and deprive Kasick of his favorite son delegates (to be handed to Jeb in exchange for VP?) Romney showed his true colors. He came out with total venom and hatred for Trump. He actually sounded like he's the leader of the globalist, anti-American agenda.
Romney just keeps moving around the country looking for political office. Michigan, Massachusetts now Utah. Carpetbagger politician. Can’t Utah find better?
Romney is a moderate, globalist squish, even more than Hatch. Hatch, once upon a time (like his first two terms), was actually a fairly conservative U.S. Senator.
If Romney wants a U.S. Senate seat, he should move to Michigan or New Hampshire (where he also owns property), and run there. Utah is a conservative state and could and should do better.
