A church attended by George Washington will take down a memorial to the nation's first president, a move church leaders say is intended to make the place of worship more welcoming.
The Washington Times reported Friday that Christ Church in Alexandria, Va., will remove memorials of Washington and former Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, which stand on either side of the church's altar.
"The plaques in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome," church leaders said. "Some visitors and guests who worship with us choose not to return because they receive an unintended message from the prominent presence of the plaques."
Washington began attending the church soon after it opened in 1773, and bought a pew there. He attended for more than 20 years, though he appeared more regularly at Pohick Church, southwest of his estate at Mount Vernon. Christ Church's decision to remove the statues comes amid a national debate over whether Confederate statues and monuments should be taken down. That debate resurfaced in August after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., turned violent.
While that debate has focused primarily on Confederate memorials, President Trump suggested shortly after the Charlottesville protests that taking down some memorials would eventually lead to statues of Washington or Thomas Jefferson being removed as well.
And this is why only religious people of faith should be allowed to run churches. Not atheists, socialists, leftists, Democrats or other such infidels.
Instead of staying in a building they don’t like, this church should move to a strip shopping center where they and those they want to attract belong.

The Episcopalian church believes in “Replacement Theology”, that is...GOD has replaced Israel with the church. Nothing could be further from the truth. If that is the case than you can’t rely on GOD to keep HIS word which is ridiculous. Man lies, GOD is incapable of lying.
How many people even attend these days? The members switched from the Episcopal Church to Anglican, and the Episcopals fought a scorched earth legal battle to keep the empty buildings.

Yes, and beyond supersessionism, the Episcopal Church no longer defends the New Covenant or affirms its own articles of faith, including the Divinity of Jesus as the Son of God, the Virgin Birth, Jesus’ Resurrection and Ascension, Eternal Life through Jesus’ one, full, and perfect Sacrifice, and the existence of Heaven and Hell. Sad.

Confederate or not, if they were members of the church. they should be left alone.
Otherwise, the Church should move out and let some other church have/buy the building - one who will leave the memorials alone, a part of the history of the building.
Their ministers seem to always be dumpy women or low testosterone men with pale faces. Pictures to the contrary are welcome.

This is an Epsicopal Church - a denomination that has been taken over by extreme leftists and in full thrall of the radical homosexual and gender bender agenda. So Christ Church already ceased to be the kind of place George Washington would ever attend, were he alive today. It is part of the great apostasy in mainline denominations in which leftists take control of churches and use them to advance far left causes. That’s what’s happening here.
If anyone feels unsafe in a church in this country, they should head for the border. And, that includes the decision makers in this case...get out of this country. You are not worthy.
