George H.W. Bush apologized to actress Heather Lind after she claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that he sexually assaulted her at an event in 2014.
Presidential First Children Through the Years President Bush would never under any circumstance intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind, the former presidents spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 25.
Lind, 34, alleged on Instagram on Tuesday, October 24, that Bush, 93, sexually assaulted her during a photo op at a private screening of her AMC series Turn: Washingtons Spies in Houston in 2014. He didnt shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side, she claimed in the caption of her post. He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again. Barbara rolled her eyes as if to say not again. His security guard told me that I shouldnt have stood next to him for the photo.
Stars Speak Out Against Harvey Weinstein Amid Sexual Misconduct Scandal The Demolition actress continued, We were instructed to call him Mr. President. It seems to me a Presidents power is in his or her capacity to enact positive change, actually help people, and serve as a symbol of our democracy. He relinquished that power when he used it against me. What comforts me is that I too can use my power, which isnt so different from a President really. I can enact positive change. I can actually help people. I can be a symbol of my democracy. I can refuse to call him President, and call out other abuses of power when I see them. I can vote for a President, in part, by the nature of his or her character, knowing that his or her political decisions must necessarily stem from that character.
Lind concluded her post by explaining that she turned to her costars and producers for support after the alleged encounter, adding, I do not respect [Bush].
The accusation came after a number of women, including A-listers Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, came forward with sexual harassment and assault claims against Harvey Weinstein. The 65-year-old producers spokesperson previously told Us that he denies any allegations of non-consensual sex.
Very well stated.
Well, his son, good ol' Dubya, either refused to defend himself or apologized for all the fake allegations from the Dems. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
“The women on this thread are not defending the attention seeker.”
I said people on this thread are defending BUSH, not the woman, who you refer to as an “attention seeker”, which is just your opinion, and nothing more.
“41 is harmless at this age”
Well apparently he’s not harmless, because someone is alleging that he committed a crime against them.
And all of the people on this page defending him and attacking her with no actual reason to do so other than oh he’s GHWB and he’s 93 ARE ENABLING HIM.
And that is how serial predators are made. They are surrounded by enablers who think that there is something in it to gain for themselves by defending this.
It’s disgusting.
Your behavior is disgusting.
If GHWB did what this woman alleges, then he is in fact a sex criminal.
Go let your daughter stand by him.
“...and if he admits to it”
Yeah, confessions usually work. No confession here. Public area, she could have jumped away and yelled, “Watch what you are grabbing!” - but she didn’t.
Media Attention Whore. No assault.
Why in the Hell would you summarily dismiss her allegation with no proof or evidence whatsoever, call her a whore, and potentially enable a sex criminal?
Why should anyone dismiss what she said?
Did she wait 20 years to come forward? No.
Did she address the incident immediately? Yes.
Did he apologize to her? Yes.
It looks to me like 41 committed a crime.
And it also looks to me like he’s got a whole boatload of enablers here on FR trying to make sure he can commit another one.
Bill, Harvey and Hillary are proud of you. Pat yourself on the back.
No she didn't. She waited 4 years. She said he was 89.
Did he apologize to her? Yes.
There was a generic apology stating "If my joke offended you, I apologize".
How am I over the top?
How has she exhibited fake outrage? Isn’t that simply your opinion? How do you know that any of this is fake?
All I have stated is that if what she said occurred, then she should report it to the police, because what she alleges is most definitely a crime.
And I have further stated that those of you on this page dismissing her allegations for no reason at all, attacking the accuser and defending the accused based simply on who he is are enabling him, and it’s disgusting.
And it’s also exactly how Harvey Weistein happened.
Attack the accuser, defend the accused.
That’s how it happens.
Exactly Bill and Hillary Clinton happened, who happen to be best friends with GHWB.
SO KNOCK IT OFF.
Better than waiting 20.
As you can see, accusing powerful well known people of crimes gets you attacked by their defenders for no reason.
“There was a generic apology stating “If my joke offended you, I apologize”.
Seems like there is at least some chance that his has quite a bit more to apologize for than a dirty joke.
Furthermore, who the **** wants to get told a dirty joke by an old man in a wheel chair?
Gross.
Seems like? Your opinion? Absolutely! We're all just giving our opinions. Most see this woman for what she is. You don't. Oh well......
Yes, it is my opinion.
No one here knows whether or not this happened or didn’t.
Only the people who were there know.
I’m not calling her a whore though, like ENABLERS around here are.
Disgusting.
If I brush up against your fanny on a crowded subway platform, is that sexual assault? What about a pat on the shoulder for a job well done? If I turn a corner and bump into your chest?
How broadly do you want to define this grievous term, bearing in mind the lives that can be destroyed if an accusation is leveled frivolously?
He apologized didn't he?
Well, besides the youtube in-the-act video.
Read the definition of the crime, man, and answer your own questions with that knowledge.
Do you see anything in there about casual, incidental or accidental physical contact?
Didn’t think so.
Now go to the grocery store and grab a lady’s rear end and see what happens to you.
“Why in the Hell would you summarily dismiss her allegation with no proof or evidence whatsoever...”
Actually, I’ve pointed out some of the relevant facts:
They were in public.
She made no protest.
They were being photographed.
They were surrounded with people.
Did she step away and tell him, “Keep your hands to yourself?”
No.
Did she act startled?
No.
Did she give ANY indication she had just been “assaulted”?
No.
Did he apologize? Only for making a joke.
The idea that a guy in his 90s in a wheelchair was engaged in sexual acts with a young woman in public is just stupid.
“Sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient.”
Not “contact”, but “sexual contact”. Touching someone is not “sexual contact”. The contact needs to be of a “sexual” nature.
According to her own account:
“He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side. He told me a dirty joke. And then, all the while being photographed, touched me again.”
Touching someone from behind is NOT sexual unless something else is involved. Telling a dirty joke is not sexual assault. I don’t care if he put his hand on her rump. It might be the only part of her he could reach from a wheelchair. If it bothered her, she should have said something. Something as simple as, “Mr President, I’d rather not be touched like that” would suffice.
No evidence of wrong doing.
“He apologized didn’t he?”
For telling a joke.
“...he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind...”
WRONG!
If he touched her on the butt, told her a dirty joke, then touched her on the butt again, he committed sexual assault against her.
Especially if she says she believes that this series of actions constitutes sexual assault against her by him. If she didn’t want his hand on her rear end, then he had no right no right to put it there, and doing so is, in fact, a sex crime.
Do you think she wanted an old man grabbing her butt and telling her dirty jokes? I don’t.
And I can see why she might be hesitant about bringing it up, because look at how you people are behaving. Your response is to attack her.
Unbelievable.
Now, go to the grocery store, find a lady, walk up next to her, touch her on her butt, tell her a dirty joke, touch her on her butt again, and see what happens.
Plenty evidence of wrong doing.
A dirty joke. So far, he's copped to sexual harassment.
Maybe he does that all the time, sees nothing wrong with it.
