Hollywood film star Mark Wahlberg said that the film “Boogie Nights” is at the top of the list of movies he has asked God’s forgiveness for at a youth event hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago last Friday.

The 1997 hit film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, featured Wahlberg as porn star Dirk Diggler, and earned several Academy Awards nominations.

Last December, the film star made headlines when he publicly chided “out of touch” Hollywood celebrities who were dissing Donald Trump before the presidential elections, urging them to stick to acting.

I think folks are going to take me too literally.

I wasn’t trying to say he was ugly. He is ruggedly handsome. He’s not what you’d term a model-like man with chiseled looks.

That’s all.

Rob Lowe did some pork when he was started out, and back then he worked to get democrats elected. He has turned into a pretty conservative guy too. And he is one of the few stars that get better looking with age. Maybe there’s a correlation there.

Great movie and Burt Reynolds was the perfect sleezey director. It was based on the life of John Holmes.

Yeah, but Wahlberg was pretty uneven in that role.

Cheadle's generally always pretty lame, but the scene with him trying to get a bank loan was pretty funny.

And of course Hoffman and Macy were great in their respective supporting roles.

I think Burt Reynolds regretting doing the film too, for some reason.

Boogie Nights was a MORAL movie because it depicted the world of pornography accurately: disgusting, spiritually and medically dangerous, and hedonistic.

The “Sister Christian” scene is one of the best in all of movie history.

I think the saddest and memorable scene was the pool party when Julianne Moore's character's son was trying to get hold of her on the phone but nobody knew she was his mom. The Andrew Gold song, Lonely Boy, played and was perfect for that scene.

I think you’re probably better off just admitting you were wrong rather than dance around this stuff.

“He’s not what you’d term a model-like man with chiseled looks.”

I’m done debating another man’s “chiseled looks”.

That was a great scene. For anyone interested what happened to Dirk’s Corvette and how it got wrecked I advise you to checkout the deleted scene on YouTube. It’s an wonderful and intense scene, but I understand why they cut it from the film.

He has come up with a great niche, and I enjoy his movies a lot.

I totally agree with you. I am an um ... 55 year-old woman (just had my Libra birthday, darn it; but as my Dad always said, it's better than the alternative. ;) )

I have always found him handsome and funny; love his Boston accent, and that cable t.v. show about the hamburger place that his family has; it's on either TLC or the Discovery Channel.

Really loved him in that movie about Afghanistan. I have never seen "Boogie Nights," but it sounds funny, from the posts here. Saw a part of "Ted," and that was funny too.

It is great, however, that he wants to repent for anything promoting porn. He was raised well and clearly is a man of faith.

Wish I'd taken a screen shot of his Calvin Klein ads, though. ;) LOL!

Julie (from Chicago) Thanks Mark, if you read this. God Bless.

Cheadle was still good in it, though.

What Mark Wahlberg should publicly express regret for wad waiting for years after several children were born before marrying their mother. There was no good reason for him to be in Mass every week in Beverely Hills — I saw them — with his pregnant GIRLFRIEND, then with his girlfriend and babies. It was a great and unnecessary scandal. The pastor would have married them in a heartbeat. By the time they did marry - five children later, after years of going up to Communion for all to see — the damaging message had been sent: there are no real riles; marriage is a subjective state; there is no need to marry unless you want to.

Thanks Julie.

I don’t remember a movie of his that I didn’t enjoy on some level.

Nice comments...

Well, the film did show the moral bankruptcy and ruination the high life of drugs, porn and perfidy can bring - the graphic manner in which much of this was portrayed helped heighten the drama and impact - Wahlberg shouldn’t have to apologize.....

That scene was based on the Wonderland murders. One of the detectives was a uniform at the Manson Family/Sharon Tate crime scene, and he said that Wonderland was a close second in bloodiness.
