The media played it up, and too many on the Right bought into it. Was it terribly misguided? Why sure it was.
Still, you don’t vote in the likes of Clinton to get even.
Yes, I'm sure there were many other factors involved in Bush's defeat, but I do know that Clinton beat that "Read My Lips..." theme like a drum, and I think that was very effective for him. He even used "Read My Lips" to cast doubt on other promises that came out of the lips of Bush, unrelated to taxes. Remember these ads?
