CLARK, Philippines (AP) Japan's defense minister asserted Monday that North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities have grown to an "unprecedented, critical and imminent" level, requiring "different responses" to the threat.
The minister, Itsunori Odonera, said that this rising threat compels his country to endorse the U.S. view that "all options" must be considered, which President Donald Trump says includes possible military action. Japan was alarmed by North Korea twice launching missiles over Japanese territory, in August and in September.
Odonera's comments, made through an interpreter, came at the outset of a so-called trilateral meeting in the Philippines with U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and South Korea's defense minister, Song Young-moo. Each made statements about North Korea before a group of reporters and news cameras, but none took questions.

China doesn't care one iotta if N.Korea or it's people improve.....they only see N.Korea as leverage material....and what they can sell to them....of course with Trump it's another story now. We can only watch and see how far this goes with China....but I tend to think China themselves will take out Fat Boy when they have nothing to loose and have their ducks in a row to take over with a puppet government in N.Korea.
Unfortunately the Asian mindset 'always' works at 'saving face' so whatever happens will 'appear' favorable for China....never make them look as bad as they are.
One other thing....You wrote...”It would be nice if China would see the need to open up the N.K. economy to improve the place.”....
Better would be if the population would open up to improve their nation...but under their ideological ‘law I call Juice”
and again that of saving face, I don’t see the population being open to outside influences when it comes to how their country is run. They’ve lived generations as a socialist communistic nation, unless this new generation mounts up I can’t see much change happening even in the long run. The people have to ‘want it’....there’s not much critical thinking among the average population..if any.
I agree with your thoughts there.
Thank you.
In some ways, I agree with you. I do think the N.K. populace is ready to face the truth, and it’s going to explode on them sooner or later.
