Nor did 0bama's habit of devouring entire tureens of live puppies in a single repast appear to affect his own term in office very much. CNN declared live puppies to be America's New Multicultural Dish and the Food Channel was inundated with recipes.

The first dog is normally crap. Obamas were not dog people. The dogs were props. In fact there were two because they never got out and the Obamas left them alone. So they got another dog so as to let them keep each other company. LBJ was a dog person. Not many others were.
