CNN is to be commended for their sponsorship of the tax debate between Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) last night. It was a serious, informative discussion about an important issue in Washington. Imagine that.
During the debate, Cruz did himself and the Republican Party a lot of good. He maintained a friendly, informative and nimble presence, effectively outlining the case that GOP tax reform is part of an overall economic plan, whereas Sanderss call for tax increases for the rich appeared to be knee-jerk and punitive rather than part of a serious economic policy. And even though the mainstream media would never admit it, if there were ever a contest to determine who is the thinking persons candidate, Cruz would beat Sanders by a mile.
I was surprised at how Sanders stuck to the same basic liberal platitudes of more taxes and more spending and the socialist call for free college. The debate showed just how limited Sanderss range is as a politician. He has a few new socialist slogans but no real plans.
When Cruz asked Sanders, since this is a tax debate, what is the difference between a socialist and a Democrat on taxes, Sanders answered pointedly, I dont know the answer to that. I thought Sanders would have been better prepared and had something new to say. But by essentially admitting that there was no difference between a socialist and a Democrat, Sanders made an important point.....

Made the comment to wife it looked like he has gained weight.
Lyn Ted is still Lyn Ted. Scum.
Twenty years ago, if someone were to admit to being a socialist or favor socialism over capitalism, they would've been immediately dismissed in American political circles. Alas, part of the Obama legacy has been to put a warm and fuzzy face on socialism as a legitimate economic choice in this country.
We've all seen the people who say things like, "Personally, I like to have roads and bridges to drive on, I like national parks, I like public schools and libraries--and you conservatives like your military!"
Progressives like these associate the idea of being taxed and producing some tangible benefit such as a road with socialism. Perhaps shame on us for allowing a federal DOT to grow to such a point, but this is hardly socialism.
The bottom line is, we cannot just assume that people fully understand what socialism, communism, or their differences between a capitalist, free market is. We must continue to educate, and not allow liberal Democrats to put lipstick on the socialist pig.
If life was really free, we’d all be socialists.
We know better than that but the intellectual and economic ignorance in the country is astounding.
Can Cruz convince Rand Paul?
Um...interesting comment...totally irrelevant to the topic at hand and provides absolutely no benefit to the conversation...but...interesting.
One loser debating another fat loser, and you’re raising the issue of relevancy?
What a hoot...
Anybody notice that Cruz has gotten fat?
Would you say that about Palin? Or Mia Love? Or any of the other women who are in politics?
“Sanders is one of the pigs in Animal Farm.”
And he and his leftist ilk are wanting to make all of us Boxers.
And he and his leftist ilk are wanting to make all of us Boxers.
They are certainly trying.
Four legs good. Two legs better.
The Richer the Socialist, the more dangerous they are.
Oh pulllllleeeese.....enough of this PC junk!
I watched the uploads of this debate on YouTube, the segments with Ted Cruz anyway, and I thought Cruz did a great job.
He didn’t just articulate the colossal divide between a constitutional republic and socialism masterfully, he used charts and graphs from federal records to show how our economy surged under the Kennedy and Reagan tax cuts and plummeted under the Carter and Obama tax hikes.
He even educated everyone on the actual story of Robin Hood, who Bernie Sanders had earlier invoked to justify his position of taking from the rich. (Robin Hood actually stole from the tax collectors i.e. the government)
I thoroughly enjoyed, watching Ted Cruz, masterfully debate that old socialist and Jake Tapper and Dana Bash having to hear it as well.
