The new law, which will replace the state of emergency imposed after the 2015 Paris attacks, was approved by the Senate on its second reading, despite campaigners warning of a threat to civil liberties. […]

Under the bill, the authorities will have the power to close religious sites that promote radical ideas, heavily curtail the movements of suspected jihadist sympathizers, and screen people in areas around any event or place deemed vulnerable to attack. […]

Human Rights Watch criticized what it called a “normalization of emergency powers”, and UN experts raised objections in a letter to the French government last month. …

If he was doing this without making the government more powerful, I might agree.

But this is the response I expected out of Europhiliacs—impose a solution in response to a problem created by the top. And that includes taking the rights of normal citizens away.

I realize that this is not great as far as civil liberties are concerned in the long term, but I do REALLY LIKE what it means to the followers of Islam. Basically that it will no longer be safe to hang out in the mosque and plan jihad with impunity...YOU WILL BE WATCHED, EVERYWHERE.

The sad part is that this approach will work, and without the bombings, trucks, and mass stabbings, public acceptance of the transformation of France to an Islamic State will tend to increase.

Well, that’s not guaranteed. If it extends to everyone, then everyone is now not safe from the government.

This is what the EU wanted anyhow—a beneficial crisis to allow them to implement a surveillance state. Look up the Stockholm Program.
