A school in Mississippi is dropping its connection to the American Confederacy's only president, Jefferson Davis, and renaming itself after President Barack Obama.
Davis International Baccalaureate Elementary School in Jackson will be renamed Barack Obama Magnet IB following a vote.
The move, which when approved will come into force in the next academic year, was proposed by parents and approved by a majority of students, parents, faculty and staff members.
Ninety-eight percent of the students who attend the school are African-American.

They don’t see or know any of that, all they know is that he is the 1st black president . . . they don’t even realize that he’s only half black . . . hehehehe . . . SAD!!!

In some ways this is very consistent. Naming the school after Jefferson Davis was an overt political act — Davis isn’t some well respected figure like Lee. He was a very controversial political lightning rod. Some Dixiecrat named the school after Davis as a political act to show white Southern Democrat unity. Now that the Dems’ liberal base has moved on from using white supremacy to maintain their political power, its time to change the name to Obama’s name in another overt political act.
Drop the name of a Confederate General for the name of a Racist Ex-President!
Uh, BS?
Many countries have split up, just in the last 20 years. It is not that big a deal to seek to avoid control by distant and hostile politicians. Do you remember the USSR , Checkoslavakia.
Very funny, a literalist progressive.
Irrelevant. The Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter, and that constituted taking up arms against the United States. They were in effect in revolt, and the revolt was treason, as defined by the Constitution. Jeff Davis, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and all the other revered heroes of the secessionist revolt committed treason. That’s historical fact. Whether their cause was just or not, it was treason.
Obama gave aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States, made common cause with the enemies of the United States against the United States, and there are more than one witness to these overt acts of treason. OK. He hasn’t been prosecuted. Yet. None of the Confederate leaders were prosecuted, either. So if they gotta replace Jefferson Davis High with Barack Hussein Obama High, it’s all the same, except I think Jeff Davis was more principled, albeit treasonous.
It is quite relevant. The south just wanted to be left alone. Are you American?
The Civil War was fought over slavery. The South wanted to preserve it. They lost. Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederacy. I mean, if I were black, I’d probably find it a little odd that I was attending a 98% black school named after Davis. Of course, I’m sure history education is so bad, even all the way through high school, none of these kids will know who Jefferson Davis was and certainly not the party affiliation of the President that signed the Emancipation Proclamation, if that’s even studied.
However, since the Civil Rights movement, the Democratic Party—having never stopped being the racist organization it was before, during, and after the Civil War—has worked extremely hard and been extremely effective at getting the blacks to ENSLAVE THEMSELVES with the Dems as their massas.
Barack Obama is the culmination of decades of this “race first” victimhood mentality. The least qualified person ever to run for office was clearly elected because of his race, and subsequently spent eight years lighting a blazing inferno of further self-separation and victimhood in the black community, setting race relations back decades if not more, and greatly furthering this self-enslavement.
Really, which namesake on this school should be abhorrent to those offended by slavery? The open proponent of forced slavery or the snake who convinces “his people” to put themselves in chains?
My mom went to Davis long ago
Idealistically they have a lot in common.
