Roy Moore: NFL Players Who Refuse To Stand For The Anthem Are Breaking The Law, You Know
Hot Air ^ | October 18, 2017 | Allahpundit

Posted on 10/18/2017 11:10:19 AM PDT by C19fan

Anyone within a mile of libertarianism on the political spectrum will dry-heave upon reading this but I admire the cunning behind his pander. Moore could have gone with a tried-and-true call to arrest all flag-burners, as there’s a large audience receptive to that argument within the GOP, but it wouldn’t have been topical. Nationalists would appreciate it but it’d have no bite. Suggesting that the Kaepernicks of the world are guilty of a federal offense while the debate over NFL anthem protests is raging, though?

The players have a Constitutional right to protest the way they do.

Sorry. You don't know what you are talking about.

”And this guy was a judge?”

There’s a reason he was removed from office twice.

“He should be able to slide into office by toning it down”

To which gdani replied, “I think that ship sailed when he said America deserved 9/11.”

FWIW, it is my understanding that this quote you cite was NOT a declarative statement of that, but a question. Those who worship God understand that He has, according to scripture, allowed enemies to attack His Covenanted People if they are being stiff-necked and denying of their Covenant relationship.

Our Founding was up-front the claiming of that Covenant relationship with our God, and so I think the Judge was simply asking that the Bible-loving among us should consider the state of our nation’s Covenant relationship with our Lord. In recent years it has been seriously wanting. The question was valid from that stand point. It also has the added advantage of making Liberal’s heads explode!

I am not in touch with how Alabamans view this, but I do think it is important to consider not perpetuating the fake news that cites wrongful quotes in the discussion.

Look at all the dingbats WEARING the flag, and they consider themselves patriots, too.

4 U.S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

Then google for ‘people wearing the flag’

And the flag code is *NOT* law. Don’t like seeing the flag disrespected, but ignorance is just as bad.

If a UPS guy comes to your door...

All true, which is why my main gripe is with the NFL, because they did nothing to stop it.

A legally defined moral obligation can't be legally enforced. I don't think Moore said that it could be legally enforced.

Playing devils advocate (and also playing a lawyer) ...”should” and “may” are used throughout that statute.

Doesn’t sound required.

Is there a penalty associated with the statute?

I would agree with him, that it cannot be legally enforced.

Try and get a top secret security clearance if you are on record as knowingly and willfully violating it.

And try to get a military promotion if you are on record as knowingly and willfully violating it.

Actions and words that may be constitutionally permissible can have negative repercussions in the real world.

“flaunting” the law

I think you mean "flouting."

What all this shows: Words sure are complicated.

Proper etiquette cannot be mandated. Proper etiquette is demonstrated and taught. Adhering to the behavioral code that sets forth the social expectations is an individual choice.

Because the people are fed up with the LFBGABC group and those that tolerate them.
