The chairman of the influential Senate Armed Services Committee said Tuesday he'll hold up President Donald Trump's nominees for key Defense Department posts until the administration delivers details about its new strategy for the war in Afghanistan.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said his committee needs the particulars in order to properly outfit the U.S. armed forces with training and equipment.
"If we don't get the information we need, we can't do that," he told reporters.
McCain said the Trump administration acts as though Congress isn't a co-equal branch of government, "and that they don't have to respond to what the Constitution says."
Trump in August outlined in broad strokes his plan for Afghanistan, declaring that American troops would "fight to win" by attacking enemies, "crushing" al-Qaida and preventing terrorist attacks against Americans. As part of the plan, the Pentagon is boosting troop numbers by about 3,500, augmenting the roughly 11,000 Americans currently stationed there.

I don’t trust McCain....never have, never will
“Whats taking that glioblastoma so long?”
You’re bad!!! LOL!
Did you catch the article about the D.C. pharmacy that said they deliver Alzheimer meds to Capital Hill? Sounds like at least 10 patients. Aunt Nancy has to be #1 on the list.
McCain has been and is now a Democrat. A military retiree with few prospects, the putative war hero divorced his wife, and married an Arizona beer baron’s daughter. He understood perfectly that if he was to play politics in Arizona he would have to do so as a Republican. Being of no particular ideological bent it was easy for him to join a club of like-minded individuals. His nomination for the presidency was perhaps the biggest joke of all, if not in the history of American politics. Most Republicans sensed it, and only Sarah Palin saved McCain from a thrashing of historic proportions. Yet he sticks around because the Arizona voter can be honestly labeled the most stupid in all the Republic.
-——Remove him as chairman for medical reasons-——
That’s up to the post turtle Mitch, not Trump....
So don’t hold your breath...it isn’t happening
Agreed. I never thought I would be rooting for cancer.
Not to mention the insults Trump threw at McCain this last election cycle.
I’m not sure whether it’s jealousy or resentment, but either way, McCain is completely and irretrievably around the bend over Trump. Plus, McCain’s secondary claim to fame is his alleged ability to work with Democrats (more precisely, his unceasing willingness to capitulate to them) so under these conditions, he can fight Trump all the way on every topic, act like a True Democrat, and yeah, there’s the war hero thing (that no Dem is) that’s always in the background. So he is so very, very special in his McCain-ness and so deserving of the attention showered upon him. Lately, I even notice a smallish gap between McCain and Linda Graham, his erstwhile love interest.
McCain will soon be going to that great POW camp in the sky..
Dang! You win the internet for the day!!
Tick tick tock...McCains gonna run out of clock...
I do so wonder what Soros and Clinton have on him to have turned him into such a traitor?
From the article: “Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said his committee needs the particulars in order to properly outfit the U.S. armed forces with training and equipment.”
also from the article: “Trump in August outlined in broad strokes his plan for Afghanistan, declaring that American troops would “fight to win” by attacking enemies, “crushing” al-Qaida and preventing terrorist attacks against Americans. As part of the plan, the Pentagon is boosting troop numbers by about 3,500, augmenting the roughly 11,000 Americans currently stationed there.”
I’d suggest Mr. McCain reach for the book of standards where he’ll find all the information he needs to outfit the additional troops as the President has outlined.
Traitorous to the end! ESAD, McNuts!
He didn't even know who Soros or Clinton were while he was a traitorous guest in Viet Nam! Yeah! His traitorous ways go back that far!
They probably have all the info he gave to his nva captors plus proof that there are still POW’s being held.
Agreed he needs to be removed from any committee chairs then pushed down the stairs. What is the process for booting senate chairs?
Majority Leader can remove chairs, although technically I think there is wrangling in the caucus. Committee chairman generally follow seniority, although big fundraisers get ahead faster, and senators don’t usually get more than one of the big time committee chair.
Next up in Senate Armed Services would be Inhofe or Wicker.
Thank you for the explanation.
Proving Peter Doocy’s question was spot on the mark....
Wait a minute... Trump insulted every potential rival in 2016, low energy Jebraan, lying Ted, begging for endorsement Linda,,,
