The Democratic Party, as it did after Hubert Humphreys close loss in 1968, seems still to be misdiagnosing its 2016 defeat.
Democrats see too little identity politics rather than too much as their trouble, and thus are redoubling on what has been slowly shrinking the party into coastal enclaves.
Promoting Black Lives Matter and open borders, promising free tuition and tax hikes, opposing fracking and pipeline construction, pushing single-payer health care and an ever-expanding transgender agenda as well as abortionthese are not majority positions. Neither will embracing Hollywood, the media, or the NFL protests win over voters. Thinking (or hoping) that President Trump will implode, quit, be jailed, sicken, die, or be impeached is not an agenda.
*snip*
Unprecedented Subordinate Power Trumps forte is his invective and brawling. He is not a Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton wonk, who micromanages even the smallest details. The result is that his cabinet secretaries, generals, and high appointees enjoy more latitude than during any administration in memory.
Trump on the parapets not only means that others to the rear are freer to make and administer rules without much presidential oversight, but also that Trump, not themselves, is the controversy. That exemption means that a cabinet official has wide parameters, with less worry that he must fight the media and his political opponents.
One of the reasons why the luminaries of Trumps team do not resign after his supposedly embarrassing outbursts is that they realize Trumps outrageousness allows them to play the good-cop, adult in the room role, usually with media sympathy. And when a president is doing downfield blocking, others are relieved of the interference. A Trump secretary of defense or national security advisor exercises power and influence in ways unimaginable in comparison to most earlier counterparts.

Mr. Trump will keep baiting the media with shiny objects. In the background, government is being redone.
Thanks for posting. You’re right. GREAT article by VDH. HOORAY President Donald J. Trump. Thanks to the people in the administration.
MAGA!
It is good, but VDH is a master and a national treasure.
Any article by VDH that is not *good* is rare.
I find this one excellent, which is about average for VDH.
We shall all have to wait and see.
A number of people are of the opinion that much is going on behind the scenes at DOJ and that Mueller's investigation is going to come back to bite the Democrats. A lot seems to have been uncovered, and none of it makes Trump look bad, but a lot of it makes Hillary, Lynch, Comey, etc. look bad.
It's a slow process but (we hope) that a mountain of incontrovertible evidence is being assembled and that indictments will follow and an iron-clad case will be unveiled. That takes time.
One can hope.
I love Donald Trump. Absolutely love him. I have long wanted a president that made the liberal half of the world just reel in horror and shock, and I am enjoying every damn minute of it. The only thing that would make me happier is to see the Pelosi-Soros contingent jumping off of bridges or dropping dead of heart attacks. I hate them utterly.
Better yet:
Always on offense. Trump is just a constant barrage raining down on the swamp!
Cloward-Piven baby .....Cloward-Piven
It must really chap the dims hides to realize Trump is using their favorite tools against them....
..Trump is smart enough to identify and use for his benefit some of the tools of the left
Alyinsky.,...ridicule and personalization
Trump is also using the Cloward-Piven strategy
Before the left have feedback from their focus groups...Delphi sessions...assessments....polling ...doner & special interest input ..etc etc ...
Trump hits them with another ...overloading the dims ability to respond.
bttt
>>> Pollsters, pundits, and the media have vastly underestimated how many in America loathe multimillionaire celebrities, pampered athletes, and triangulating politiciansthe usual targets of Trumps invective. <<<
How could/would they?
Surrounded by their own circles, all they see and hear are like-minded people. Even if there are other ‘normal’ Americans sounding differently, this is dismissed as their voice are not as important as that from other more ‘worthy’ people.

“Republican senators who recently got reelected by blasting the Iran Deal, open borders, and Obamacareapparently on the premise that their posturing votes would never really matter, given the likelihood of a liberal vetoing president? “
The GOP congress never wanted Trump to win. They’d have been ok with Walker (if you nice football fellas might just not kneel we’d sure appreciate it), Bush, or anyone else, who could have beaten Hilary NEVER. These guys never wanted the House in 2010, nor subsequently the Senate. Now they’ve got both plus the WH and soon the judiciary and majority public support leaving Hollywood and the Media in the dust, with Hillary running behind pretending it’s not all happening
They don’t know what do do. I suggest they put down the drink and get out of denial. McConnell did that yesterday. Never heard his voice so energetic.
“Close, except VDH still doesnt get that these brawls and fights, especially with people inside the administration (Sessions, Tillerson), are pure WWF entertainment/sideshows/distractions.”
Hmm. I thought that was exactly what he was saying
Let the Dems tie their own noose from their own hand woven twine.

Any President who can't handle multiple disasters and still mock his enemies while tweeting on the toilet is no president of mine.
Two more SCOTUS appointments and the nation will benefit for a generation or more. I am a part of Trump's base whose support will be practically unaffected by any other failures, most of which can be laid at the feet of RINOs like McCain.
VDH coming around at last. It’s been a hard road for him and he’s still a ways to go.
Like his ideality/practicality struggle.
Indeed.
Despite his numerous word jabs at DJT (you can't fake like or dislike), we still love VDH.
VDH totally “gets” that the dust-ups are distractions and sideshows. At least that’s my take-away from the whole article, basically. Maybe I’m wrong...
Pruitt is dismantling the EPA, something that would be the subject of weeks of groaning in the MSM if it weren't for their constantly being distracted by Trump.
No James Watt Fiasco’s. In the past the people that we like they were getting the job done in the Regulatory Agencies were getting isolated and then cut off. Under Trump he is taking all the arrows and we have people running the agencies that are getting the job done like Pruitt. If Trump were respectable than true it would have gotten isolated and kicked out. This article really points this out in a way that makes me appreciate him even more
