The Christian baker in Colorado who was sued for declining to make a cake for a same-sex couples wedding reception received a strange request last month: Design and bake a cake celebrating Satans birthday.
I would like to get a quote on a birthday cake, for a special event, the email request to baker Jack Phillips, sent Sept. 30 and exclusively obtained by The Daily Signal, reads. It continues:
It is a cake that is religious in theme, and since religion is a protected class, I am hoping that you will gladly bake this cake. As you see, the birthday cake in question is to celebrate the birthday of Lucifer, or as they [sic] are also known Satan who was born as Satan when he was cast from heaven by God.
The request for Phillips to quote a price for the cake also asks for an upside down cross, under the head of Lucifer.
The incident exemplifies the complexity of government laws mandating that those in creative occupations violate their religious beliefs in serving clients or customers.
This is a danger that lawyers for Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, say theyre raising before the U.S. Supreme Court, which in June agreed to take the bakers case.
Phillips gained nationwide attention after declining to make the wedding cake for the gay couple, and eventually being found guilty of discrimination by a Colorado state agency and the courts.
Phillips has told The Daily Signal and others that his Christian faith not only doesnt allow him to design and make cakes celebrating same-sex unions, it prevents him from designing cakes that involve such elements as witchcraft or explicit sexuality.

My second birthday is October 25th. I say 26 because that ‘is’ Hillary’s birthday.
Now that was funny!
;)
They’ll have to find another Loretta Fuddy, though.
Maybe another Alex Okrent? /adjusts tinfoil hat
Well, somebody did the work of putting it together.
though I’m not in this baker’s shoes, I’d bake the cake but pray constantly over it it that it would have the effect God would want to come from it.
I think there is a place in the bible that talks about if some one who is not a Christian is doing evil to not stand in there way, let them have their fall.
It seems obvious with this second legal problem that people will keep harassing him since he lost the first one.
I think God is giving this baker an opportunity to change some hearts and maybe even win some souls for eternity.
Maybe he can have a compromise He will decorate cakes but no wording? or have a limited number of designs in subjects he chooses?
Rough situation, but this could be like ministering to people through cakes.
Maybe starting now every cake he makes has to have a certain signature in the design and it’s his way of marking it for God?
Is there a particular flavor specified?
The intended victim should gather all available information about this creep. Get in touch with his old acquaintances from high school, from his neighborhood, from old jobs... as a perv this guy probably has an old parole officer or three. Spread all the information to everyone and encourage them all to contact the creep and express an “interest” in his ongoing activities... and take it from there.
One ghost pepper Devil’s food cake coming up... with a 5 gallon side of cold milk and a bonus roll of asbestos toilet paper for the FFRFholes.
Ask for $5 million up front and if they don’t like it, have Satan sue....
That would be easily done, since the average trial lawyer is Satan.
If the customer is going to acknowledge the existence of Satan, I’m baking the cake. Most anti-theists won’t do that.
Would mixing in crushed ghost peppers be close enough?
Got me there. I wonder if the bakeries could charge more for certain products if they posted a list ..... would those who insist they go against their religious morality be willing to pay a lot more to mess with them instead of going to a baker who didn’t care?
