WASHINGTON The Justice Department has dispatched an experienced federal hate crimes lawyer to Iowa to help prosecute a man charged with murdering a transgender high school student last year, a highly unusual move that officials said was personally initiated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
In taking the step, Mr. Sessions, a staunch conservative, is sending a signal that he has made a priority of fighting violence against transgender people individually, even as he has rolled back legal protections for them collectively.
The Justice Department rarely assigns its lawyers to serve as local prosecutors, and only in cases in which they can provide expertise in areas that the federal government views as significant. By doing so in this instance, Mr. Sessions put the weight of the government behind a small-city murder case with overtones of gender identity and sexuality.

Fishing for cocktail party invitations.
Two 22 year old men are accused of killing a “gender fluid” 16-year old male who identified as “male AND female”.
How to adults and teens even mix?
I think he did this because it was a case requiring expertise that the locals didn’t have.
You know- what someone concerned about justice would do.
This case is not his most eggregious, but I still think he’s the most surprising and worst hire so far made by Trump.
We bought a solid ROCK.
We ended up with MUSH.
Hey Dumbass.....GO AFTER HILLARY, LOIS, JOHN, HUMA!!!
The liberals accused Sessions of being a “racist” due to his apparent conservative stances.
Could be that he might be racist after all, but for the opposite reason.
The President wants me to......(gulp), investigate Hillary, Obama, Brennan, Podesta, and those Pakistani spies at the DNC?
I mean, that will make a lot of waves....lots and lots of waves...and, I recused myself, you know, because I am a man of such integrity, honor, pride, and selflessness....I am a man of humility. I am the most HUMBLE person I know.....
I don't want to do this difficult stuff of holding people accountable, I want to be "Above it All" and talk about fun stuff......
I know! I'll defend homosexual perverted men who dress up as women and cut their own nuts off! That will make so popular to the press!!!
I think you are one of the few Freepers that gets that Sessions is nothing more than a swamp dweller. I always appreciate your posts to wake up others that still think this is a man of integrity.
Either Jeff Feckless has a lot of relatives and former collegues on FR, or the IQ of this place went down a few points recently.
I take exception to the concept of a “hate crime”, but no one deserves to get murdered.

Are you opposed to DOJ involvement in this murder case?
If so, why?
Murder is murder. What don’t the freaks understand about that?
Oh wait, they demand special treatment.
I read somewhere that Jeff Bo thinks the murderer was tokin’ on a number during the crime and that's where he's REALLY headed.

You mean the locality had never had a MURDER before? Or maybe a shrink to explain the mentally deceased?
Else, sounds like another elevated class\special protection(s).
Course, STILL no word from Rip Van Sessions on his ‘jump on the case’ from NC, so ‘long ago’...

Well, there’s your problem: conflating govt\DOJ\FBI w/ justice.
Mother of God. Somebody get this man out of this office and put someone in your has some sense.
That’s pretty much my view.

Stop.
Just stop.
Murder is a crime. And a sin. I don’t care if someone is homosexual, sexually deviant, confused, or straight as an arrow.
Jeff Sessions is doing the right thing. If a federal crime was committed, and the investigator finds a federal crime may have been committed, then by all means prosecute.
I am sick of the notion, propagated by the extreme left and the extreme right, that conservatism means turning a blind eye to true injustice.
Every human being is made in the image of God. Every human being is fallen. So yes, people who are confused about their sexuality are made in God’s image—and they have every right not to expect to be MURDERED.
Whatever sin we have in our hearts or act out in our bodies—and God judges us for—doesn’t give someone the right to take another’s life without due process.
Law doesn’t work that way. Just the opposite.
