Press Release Statement on Trump Administration's Decision Regarding Obamacare Payments October 12, 2017|Speaker Ryan's Press Office
WASHINGTONHouse Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) today issued the following statement regarding the Trump administrations determination that certain payments under Obamacare have no valid appropriation:
Under our Constitution, the power of the purse belongs to Congress, not the executive branch. It was in defense of this foundational principle that the House, under the leadership of former speaker John Boehner, voted in 2014 to challenge the constitutionality of spending by the Obama administration that was never approved by Congress. The House was validated last year when a federal court ruled that the Obama administration had indeed been making unauthorized and therefore illegal payments through Obamacare. Todays decision by the Trump administration to end the appeal of that ruling preserves a monumental affirmation of Congresss authority and the separation of powers. Obamacare has proven itself to be a fatally flawed law, and the House will continue to work with Trump administration to provide the American people a better system.
Because Democrats are the party of Stalin and Republicans are the party of Rockefeller.
These are country club Republicans or as my father called them, Democrats.
You owe us 8 year of back pay for non job performance then!
BULLS EYE!!
thanks. i see that now...
No problem - saw a few folks getting upset and opted to just explain - usually pretty abrasive myself, but once a year or so I show my sweet inner self....
Hilarious.
The day the Publishers Clearing House shows up at my house with that big check.
You're right. Ryan's not the real problem although he's not much help. The real problem lies with McConnell and the rest of the GOP Senate.
“The government covers the completely uncontrolled losses to the insurance companies to make sure they turn a profit by stealing investor dividend money from Fannie May and Freddie Mac “Not any more.
Bump
Keep dreaming. Obama will never go to jail. Better to destroy Obamas legacy by fighting for our Constitution,
Please pay attention. This specifically WASN’T funded. President Obama ordered the money spent anyway. That was the point of Ryan’s comments in support of President Trump’s action.
As far as Obamacare en total, you are wrong, they could have only defunded it if the Senate passed the same and the President (at that time Obama) signed it into law. The House can’t defund something unilaterally. It also fell under the category of mandatory spending which is why it continued without a budget during the government shutdown.
Except in this case, Congress did specifically defund these payments - Obama ordered the payments to be made anyway.
This was about Obama authorizing payments...on his own.
This House/Senate origination is a back and forth thing and both chambers write their own “proposal”...and fight it out until they both pass what is a compromise bill.
i believe you are incorrect.
your statement: “ The House cant defund something unilaterally.”
my answer is that they most certainly can.
Article !, Sect 7: “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”
my reading of that section, is where I stand on my criticism of boehner that the House. they simply could have omitted ocare from the budget.
And the Congress did nothing along legal means when Obama “ordered” those illegal payments.
His name was mentioned. That is enough to get the pack of Pavlov’s dogs howling.
The explanation for the comments is simple, whenever Ryan or McConnell says or does something they are attacked, because they are source of all evil in the world and can do no right.
