The melody of "Home on the Range" that we know today dates from 1930. In the 1920's, it was usually sung to a different melody, but the only example I can find on Youtube is this one by
Jules Allen, which is incomplete. I have another recording, from 1928, that uses this melody, but it's on a 78 rpm disc.
Yet another melody, which may be even older, is available on Youtube. Perhaps it's the original.

I’m yawning and ready to collapse into bed...maybe I’ll read another chapter of Anna Karenina before going to sleep...just to see if i can find any more mistakes from the esteemed professor who wrote the “End Notes”. LOL.
When I finish Anna Karenina, I might go for some light reading...just picked up a copy of Don Quixote! :-)

“It was down in Louisiana, just about a mile from Texarkana.”
I still can’t figure that one out.

I don't know about reminding me specifically of home, but that's definitely one of the greatest songs ever written. I'm going to throw in the following:
Home - Edwin Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Sweet Home Chicago
ColdPlay - Clocks - "Home is where I wanted to go"

Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom, boom, boom
Son, he said, grab your things I’ve come to take you home

When the Saints Go Marching In and Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans. Guess where I’m from? There’s also an instrumental album from a man named Paul Weston called Crescent City Suite which is just beautiful.
