LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police confirm that a Texas Tech police officer has been shot and killed at Texas Tech Police Headquarters.
It happened around 7:45 p.m. on Monday night at the Texas Tech Police building at 413 Flint Avenue. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old freshman Hollis A. Daniels, was taken into custody at 9:28 p.m. according to officials with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. He was located near Jones AT&T Stadium.
Officials with Texas Tech University say since the Daniels was taken into custody, the lockdowns at Texas Tech University and University Medical Center have been lifted. Officials say people need to avoid the Texas Tech Police Department and the north side of campus.
Texas Tech officials tell us they did a welfare check on a student, found drugs and drug paraphernalia in his room and brought him in, once at the PD building, the student pulled a gun and shot the officer in the head, killing him. Then the student fled on foot.

Yes that does make much more sense. He had been arrested at Tech last year on drug charges so was known to them already. I cant imagine he wasnt patted down although thats how the news stories read. Maybe they were just poorly written and thats actually what happened ( he got one of their guns). Still why wasnt he handcuffed ?

He had been arrested at Tech last year on drug charges so was known to them already. He should have been dismissed from the university for the first arrest. Instead of focusing on gun control. . .how about drug control.

Not a case of procedural “Best Practices” here, that’s for darn sure.
TOTALLY avoidable.
Poor officer. So sorrowful.

From Holmes to Lanza to Paddock, it appears that money doesn't buy happiness or stability.

Arrest anyone of any age and the police have a right to frisk the arrestee.
I hope the cop wasn’t being overly cautious because of PC BS.

Sounds like another case of affluenza. Guess he won’t be managing the family business after this.
How many times has dear old city councilman and business owner dad paid to get charges dropped during the years? Too bad the kid wasn’t made to face the consequences the first time and learned a lesson before taking a life.
19 years old and looking at the death penalty.

Texas Tech’s sports chant is “Gun up!”. How long before that’s changed?

A likely pattern. Also, the university offers all kinds of substance abuse counseling to students, yet he chose to continue on a path of self destruction.
