I worked at U.S. Steel years ago. I was in electrical maintenance. One of the byproducts of the steel making process is graphite dust. It used to get in the crane resistor banks and short them out. Hours spent replacing burned up resistor banks in 100 degree heat 120 feet in the air over a 200 ton ladle of steel.
