My cousin in Santa Rosa was awakened early this AM with pounding on the door.

Immediate evac, with just enough time to grab a shirt and get their shoes on.

Fire on both sides of the road on the way out.

And that was less than 20mins after the first knock.

He is certain he lost his home and everything in it. He also has a business in town (curios and hippy art etc.) which he is hoping to save.

That’s awful! Thank God he is okay, though.

Wow - so sad to hear. As I was looking at the other thread last night about this I noticed it was about 3:30 am. My first thought was that it seems like a very urban area - not way out in “the woods” somewhere (they mentioned one fire was near a Fred Meyer store). The next thing I thought of was “Most folks are sleeping at 3:30 am - how will they even know their neighborhood is on fire?”

I know in the Midwest we had sirens for the tornadoes. I don't think we have anything like that in Seattle. It probably wouldn't wake me any way. My cell phone is off at night so reverse 911 won't work. I do have a radio that will go off with a weather alert alarm that is VERY loud. I should see if it is tied into fires.

My niece and her family live in Santa Rosa also. She posted on FaceBook that they were evacuated. I pray for all those involved.

Sad for him. I have a sister in Santa Rosa and another sister in Sonoma. Sister says waiting to hear if they have to evacuate. Sister's husband in Sonoma has a great deal of antiques in their home, no way to transport much of it if called to evacuate - some of the stuff is from 1700s. But lives are more important. By the way, they are staunch conservatives!
