Have a tattoo? If the answer is yes, its more likely youre unemployed or completely out of the labor force. On average, your income is lower. Youre more probably a smoker, use illegal drugs, engage in risky sexual behavior, have been a victim of crime, and have been incarcerated for committing crime yourself.

I have tatts and I’ve been tested, results NO disorders or issues in need of counseling.......
So you’re wrong..
And you’re right. My forearm tattoo does send a message to anyone who sees it.
If they’re stupid enough to think that is a negative reflection on my judgement or morality, well, that’s between them and their God.
A griend who owns his own business, very liberal woukd agree with this article
Most people without tattoos have a severe mental defect.
And you never see a motorcycle parked in front of a psychiatric clinic.
Was in a convenience store a couple weeks back. Reasonably-decent looking gal behind the counter, very nice. Then I saw her arms. Forearms, mostly. It was so unnecessary. She would have been just fine without it.
Someone smart.
I’ve never gotten any tattoos, but I think that it’s because I grew up knowing far too many older men and women who were forcibly tattooed in the camps. It gave me a bad feeling about them growing up.
As I got older, I noticed that people with tattoos tended to be members of 3 different groups: Military, cute girls, or ner-do-wells. Gang members fall into the later category. The first two groups didn’t generally seem to have many of the problems of the third, probably because it wasn’t the tattoos that caused the issues.
I don’t understand why anyone would get a tattoo on their face or neck and expect to fit into society. It seems it’s their way to give a big F-U to society in general.
I do have to say that some of the tattoo artists featured on TV are really incredible artists, and I think their shows give some insight into why some people get tattoos. Some of the stories are really heartbreaking.

Someone very wise. Could be a lot more of that in this thread.
You make a good point. A tattoo can signal membership is a group, like my dad’s discreet (I now know) tattoo, when he was in the army. Or, a biker gang, as you point out. Conversely, it could signal an attention hog, hey look at me, borderline or actual narcissist personality. Maybe this is why the correlation goes to zero when you actually take in account things like educational attainment.
If it is a tasteful patriotic military tattoo, then thank you for your service. Can you start on Monday?
If it is a naked lady, or a demon or a picture of Che Guevarra or some LGBTQ symbol, then thanks for the interview. Well let you know.
Regardless of what you put there it is going to affect your future employment prospects. Even you have to admit that.
Someone might be offended by your patriotic tattoo (yeah, I wouldn't want to work for someone like that either) but if you are desperate for a job to feed your kids and to move out of the ghetto, a visible tattoo is a sure fire way to push you to the end of the line.
All I can say is you have to be really dedicated to whatever the message is you put on your body by way of a tattoo.
My Niece's daughter's boyfriend was killed in a car crash while texting to her. She and her mother both thought it would be a great tribute to him if they went to the tattoo parlor and got a giant tattoo of his name on her back between her shoulders. She was 17. I guess the mom signed some kind of waiver.
Within a couple of months she got a new boyfriend. He didn't share her first boyfriend's name.
This is a very destructive fad.
Kids are going out on their 18th Birthday to get some of the tattoos that I posted here. If they raised the age of consent for tattoos to 26 (which is the new age where children become adults under Obamacare) then this fad would die out quickly.
I have no tattoos and am proud to say that neither of my sons have them. One was a Navy guy.
They do not improve anything and I can think of no reason to get one. The biggest reason not to get one is the image of the person having them. Like it or not it produces a negative image.
I just think they’re ugly.
Otherwise, there are various degree of crazies with or without tats.
This 20 something had the yin yang symbol on his arm.
I ask him do you know what that means?
He had no igea.
He just like the way it looked.
Leviticus 19:28
Yes, I am a veteran who served honorably, thank you.
My prominent tattoo expresses my thanks to God for my granddaughter, and serves as my reminder to remain thankful for all of His blessings.
Racist? Ludicrous. Unless the word has no meaning.
I believe that I’m smart enough to make my judgements about others based on something more substantive, like their character and behavior, not to mention their prejudices and blindness to reason.
Leviticus 19:15
Hugh: My prominent tattoo expresses my thanks to God for my granddaughter, and serves as my reminder to remain thankful for all of His blessings.
Marlowe: You're HIRED! :-)
Thanks. I appreciate the discussion, truly.
We’re not so far apart.
