Three people were taken into custody Saturday after a driver was pulled over as he left OHare International Airport and an assault-style rifle and handgun were found inside his vehicle.
A pressure cooker was also found during the traffic stop, which happened shortly after 8 a.m. as the vehicle exited OHare Airport, according to Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Neither the guns nor the pressure cooker were believed to have been intended for any acts of violence in the city, which will see enhanced security measures during the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, police said.
The vehicle was stopped after the driver was seen speeding by officers as it left OHare Airport, police said. A handgun was initially found inside, but a more thorough search also revealed an AR-15 rifle and the pressure cooker in the vehicles trunk.
Three people were taken into custody and the CPD Organized Crime Bureau and Joint Terrorism Task Force were called to conduct an investigation, police said.
Police said they dont believe the pressure cooker was intended to be weaponized after finding food and grease remnants inside.
The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man from Wisconsin, was being cooperative with officers and federal agents, police said. He said he was in Chicago to drop off a friend at the airport.
Police said they have concluded the man posed no threat to events in the city, but were working with prosecutors and seeking aggravated weapons charges in connection with the incident.
All three people remained in custody Saturday night, Guglielmi said.
Police added that while there was not believed to be a threat to events in the city connected to this case, runners and spectators at the Chicago Marathon should expect to see a very visible presence of police officers along the marathons route. The department has also increased the number of undercover officers working the marathon and will be coordinating with FBI agents, Homeland Security officials and Illinois State Police.
Patrols in and around Wrigley Field and Solider Field will also be increased for National League Division Series games and Mondays Chicago Bears game against the Minnesota Vikings, police said.
The Chicago Police don’t believe that Chicago will be attacked by terrorists because they handle the terrorists finances.
Probably not a group of evil white Trump guys wearing MAGA hats since their names were not listed.
No where does it say the pistol was on his person or that the rifle was improperly secured in the vehicle.
Pistol was in the vehicle with him, so it was legally on his person...
As I stated, it should have been in trunk, unloaded, field stripped/locked, etc. AR-15 should have been locked, stripped, etc.
“LOL I thought the same thing...maybe hunting for ducks and then going to can them? ;)
Must be some high flying ducks if they need an AR15!
Also, the ducks were really old, and you needed a pressure cooker to soften and cook them.
More like just naive as to how rotten illannoy is.
I was stopped for speeding in Iowa—on a country road—was lost, no idea where I was, speed I was going...My GPS was not functioning as too rural...I was pulled over—going 265 over...Though the officer was nice enough to write the ticket for going 10 over, my ignorance of the posted speed did not get me off...
They may be naive—but if a person want to own firearms, they need to be cognizant of the responsibility placed on them...part of that is not only knowing the proper operation and safety issues, but the laws... BTW, pretty much the whole country seems to know that Cook County (Chicago) has very strict gun laws. IMHO, no excuse. Bad timing bad optics**
** (see my post #98 on my spouse bringing Himalayan salt thru TSA—same thing—bad timing and super bad optics! Nearly missed a flight!!
LOL I was not going 265 over, I was going 25 over...I need more coffee ;)
Is this just another case added to the list of suspicious individuals the authorities were ‘watching’?
Hey, I was in the house when grandma set one of those off on the glass top stove with roast. It destroyed the oven too and the overhead fan and light assembly!
I said Chicago... Not Illinois.. Chicago has it’s own gun laws.
exactly- states have turned the second amendment right to carry into ‘You may carry your gun but only in pieces’ or ‘locked away’ somewhere- Had you been a victim of a carjacking- heaven forbid- you would not have been able to defend yourself
I was gonna say.. what in the world were you driving? and how did they catch you?
NY is trying to get it’s ‘safe act’ enacted country wide- They pushed that unconstitutional ‘safe act’ on the people of NY under the deceitful guise of ‘imminent need to prevent gun violence’ - and now they want the whole country to adopt this unconstitutional law
[[”EDITORIAL: SAFE Act can work to prevent killings
Local police had heard about a man threatening a dog with a rifle, and Chief Justin Derway went to a home on Culvert Street, where Devin A. Pratt was standing in a driveway, holding an AR-15-style rifle.
Derway confiscated the rifle, because under New Yorks SAFE Act, certain semi-automatic rifles with military features are illegal.”
They wish to make it illegal to buy certain SEMI AUTOMATIC guns simply because they ‘look like military style assault weapons’ -
Again- States are slowly slowly slowly chipping away at our second amendment rights
LOL shame on me—I taught typing for years...
Proofreading is my friend ;)
Actually, I was driving a rental car which was rather zippy, but not 265 mph zippy!! ;)
OUt in middle of corn fields—literally! On my way to granddaughter’s birthday at son’s in-laws’ farm. I was truly lost due to my GPS and roads being out from rain, etc.
I was so far out in sticks, my voice instructions were coming a few minutes after passing turns etc. I did have paper directions and maps which I was working with—not paying attention to the speed.
I think the officer, late 20s/early 30s felt very sorry for me. Helped me get on the roads.
Drive back home was very pleasant as I knew the way :)
AR-15 yes, pressure cooker no.
I never feel threatened by police because of the pressure cooker that i keep in my car.
I really don’t see the point of this article..
Note the first words of your link, As long as you have a FOID* card, you can have your gun in your car.... Being a Wisconsin resident, he doesn't have one so he'd have to rely on the federal through state transportation exemption.
Read the footnote on the first words in the link:
As long as you have a FOID* card, you can have your gun in your car, in the passenger compartment, with the ammunition at the ready.
*FOID cards are not required for non-residents.
The only requirement for traversing illannoy with firearms in a car for non residents are that they be in a case and unloaded. Now be aware that shitcago/crook county have a variety of idiotic local ordinances regarding “assault weapons”, magazine capacity, and laser sights. How strictly they are enforced and even what they are continues to be an enigma. To my limited knowledge, because of ambiguity and conflicts with state law I am not aware of many problems. As alwnays though you are at the tender mercy of Chicago cops and return of firearms is problematic,
With no Illinois concealed carry permit, the pistol would have to be unloaded and in a case. It it wasn't, then he was illegally transporting the pistol.
Stupid laws, created by an utterly corrupt, Third-World state.
You are welcome to travel in IL with firearm in unlocked case in your car—not trunk...Go for it...Just hope you don’t get pulled over as everyone told me best to be careful on the road...
You note ambiguity...I spoke to my fav. firearm shop today...Said everyone will tell you differently due to ambiguity and there are local ordnances that supersede state laws. However, You are correct you can carry in case...Ammo should be separately locked in trunk... However, also stated that is the minimum—not necessarily smart...due to ambiguity and you should not be planning to use that firearm in IL for self defense if you are not a resident. Smart firearm owner should CYA and have firearms in trunk, locked in case or separate from ammo...If they are going to gun range or hunting, then when they get there, local and state laws apply...That is how people I know transport if not conceal carrying.
So, I have been told today and in the past that to transport any firearm besides one with a CC permit (a handgun or revolver), it should be in CASE, case should be locked and best in trunk—then no ambiguity about accessibility...Trigger lock or field strip not bad idea...Again, who told me? Gun shop owners in Chicagoland... Better to be safe than sorry.
BTW, I live in IL and have investigated transport of firearms by relatives from different states, and as I stated before, I passed the 16-hour CC course in IL.
My point is the owner of firearm at O’Hare did not follow the laws...obviously, or he would not have been charged.
Oh, and if they were stopped on airport property, then they violated other laws I suspect as it is not legal to carry at O’hare and if you are transporting it on plane, must be unloaded in LOCKED CASE...not sure about current laws on carryon or checked—last I looked had to be checked.
Actually illegal to have firearm in most State and Fed. facilities:

The Sun-Times article has been updated. It now names Santos Zamora, 32, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin as the driver and indicates he is being charged with weapons offenses.
