Kinda miss the old TZ Bridge. Fond memories driving across it in my truck loaded with 55 gal drums when the cross winds over the Hudson Riv would kick up. Good times :) Too bad they're naming the new bridge after il Sfaccim

I hate naming bridges out of politicians.

There must be greater man than him in the city.

$4 billion for a friggin’ bridge. It ought to be gilded from top to bottom. The NY taxpayers (as usual) got hosed.

Fond memories driving across it ...
Yeah, me too. I grew up on LI (50s/60s) and we'd visit my grandparents who lived upstate a few times a year. Special times.
And I don't give a damn what the Cuomo Crime Family calls it - it'll always be the Tappan Zee.

Good video of the whole thing, when a few lanes of the new bridge opened earlier this summer:

Why not call it the Corleone Causeway?

It’ll still be the Tapan Zee to me. Screw the Cuomo’s.

I think Cuomo is a great name for the bridge: Every bit of its support is crooked.

I liked driving across the CrappanZee and being able to look down at the water below through a hole in the concrete.
That was an experience.

So New England is now an island?

Will we float out to sea?

Or capsize first from all the people here.

FWIW, the official name of the bridge is the Governor Malcolm Wilson–Tappan Zee Bridge, but in death as in life, Rocky's lieutenant governor and successor gets no respect.

Lived in SW CT (Fairfield Cty.)for many years. Business took me over to NJ frequently; I've crossed the Tappan Zee & GW hundreds of times (no exaggeration). Even sailed under the TZ once, moving a sailboat from Tarrytown over to Stamford, CT.
Down the Hudson around the tip of Manhattan and up the East River. Interesting trip.

...former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo...

I remember the old Bob Grant radio show, and the guy who use to sing “Mario, assenza me! Tu sei un proprio sfaccim." "He can run New York State, but the streets are filled with hate, when he comes to town, this is what we say, Mario, assenza me! Tu sei un proprio sfaccim."[

I prefer the TZ to the GW when driving south but tend to go Cross Bronx when returning. I had no idea that it was closing. The last time I drove over the GW almost 4 years ago, I broke down in Mamaroneck. Ended up getting a new car because the repairs simply took too long. Car got fixed but gave it away to a family member who used it as an Uber driver for a good while.

I knew a truck driver who I was told died going off that bridge some 20 plus years ago.
