ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. An armed robbery suspect opened fire at a Northeast Albuquerque gas station, striking a customer in the neck and an employee in the legs, Friday morning, according to a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department.
The victims were in stable condition Friday afternoon.
Officer Simon Drobik said the incident started around 8:30 a.m. when a man robbed the Circle K on Wyoming near Claremont NE at gunpoint and then fled from the store.
At that time the assistant manager went out to take a picture of the vehicle the individual was fleeing in, Drobik said. That individual got in the car and reached out the passenger side window and fired multiple rounds in the direction of the assistant manager.
He said the assistant manager was hit numerous times in the leg and a man who was filling up gas at a pump was struck in the neck.
The victims were taken to the hospital.

This crap happens all the time in the city, crime especially auto theft is off the charts, and the new state wide bail law which was supposed to keep dangerous criminals in jail has a loophole that allow judges to release "non-violent" criminals without bond if they plead indigent.

Yep. And what happened here is what happens when the manager has nothing more than a camera. How much of this, I wonder, is forced on them by their insurers who are afraid of a wrongful death suit? Or is it a corporate thing?

Description of suspect: “He look-a-like a man.”
Breakin’ bad in Abq.
Sparklite2, good comments on the robbery thread from several weeks ago. Here's one:
I'm sure her employer felt that her death (covered by workers' compensation) would be far cheaper than if she accidentally shot a customer! In today's courts..., he is exactly right! I had a Niece who was robbed twice working at a convenience store and luckily decided upon a change of employment! It is a very dangerous line of work!
and another:
Your company couldnt care less about your life or your safety. Theyre only concerned with profits and dont want these petty life threatening robberies to cause them unwanted liability issues.
Circle K still exists? They all disappeared around here ages ago.
Your company couldnt care less about your life or your safety. Theyre only concerned with profits and dont want these petty life threatening robberies to cause them unwanted liability issues.
A company that told the employees to use weapons to prevent robbery would be placing their revenues (profits) ahead of their employee’s safety. I hate the anti-business sentiment on FR.
After such an awful crime I wonder if the APD went out and murdered a homeless man or shot someone’s dog to work out their stress? Or maybe they just shot one of their own officers.
That seems to be what they usually do.
Screw the company. The safety of the clerk is paramount.
If you find that to be an anti-business sentiment then I certainly hope you don’t own a business.
If you do then I pray that the SEIU unionizes them like you deserve.
I stopped at a gas station in Moriarty last week. Next to me pulled up a shiny new Penske rental moving van towing a recent model Jeep on a trailer. The young lady of the couple (from Massachusetts) went into the Jeep to get some belongings. I asked her if they were going to stop in ABQ to spend the night.
She said yes and I warned her about parking at a motel told her that if they were staying there to stop at a Home Depot or auto store and get some security chains and heavy duty locks to prevent theft.
Once a week at least at hotels, a rental van and/or trailer were either broken into or stolen and this one was so shiny and new with a Jeep that it would for sure be a target.
I scared her enough that she said they would keep going and asked for the next town. I suggested Grants would be more welcoming.
Circle K needs a large law suit; make it a class action
“After such an awful crime I wonder if the APD went out and murdered a homeless man or shot someones dog to work out their stress? Or maybe they just shot one of their own officers”
YOU ignorant ass. What the hell do you know about APD besides what you’ve read somewhere? Whether you know it or not it was a fine department that was damned hard on criminals in a city that is infested with dope and gangs and a violent Hispanic subculture.
Then when the inevitable mistake occurs people like you swarmed in and brought in the DOJ. Because we all know Feds are for more trustworthy.
Now under fed leadership, Abq leads the nation in most every crime stat to be found.
The safety of the clerk is paramount
I’m sure I’ve misunderstood your post to me, as no sane person could disagree.
What I disagreed with was “Theyre only concerned with profits and dont want these petty life threatening robberies to cause them unwanted liability issues..”
Trying to avoid liability is common sense, but to say their only concern is with profits is hyperbolic, anti-business hooey.
**The victims were in stable condition Friday afternoon.**
Prayers for both of them.
That's not how it works. They forbid their employees to posses weapons while at work. They do this to avoid mega liability issues which can dwarf monthly or even annual profits. Again, these greedymart companies couldn't care less about employee safety. It's all about limiting liability and profits.
It's much worse citywide than even I expected! With the FBI chart above, there's auto theft of one kind or another every 53 minutes in Albuquerque!!
