Why would they know what a shoelace is? They've probably never wore shoes that had them, or they wear shoes that have them, but leave them untied, which means they never learned how to tie them. Had to be a white person though since it's white privilege to know how to tie shoe laces.

Snowflake: The type of person who panics over seeing a lost shoelace, afraid that it might represent a noose.

At least they didn’t find a bag of chitlins placed under a cardboard box with one side of it up with a stick and a string to pull out out. Just call it “bait” and the little snowflakes would go into meltdown when it was reported.

And the shoelace was still in its package.
Kids today should watch more old westerns. Then they would know what a proper noose looks like.

A shoelace did not cause racial uproar. Racial uproar was thriving without the shoelace. The shoelace gave someone a way to get attention. If the shoelace hadn’t been there, it could have been a banana peel, a plastic holder for cans, or pretty much ANYTHING else.

I need to replace a broken noose on one of my shoes.

Sometimes a shoelace is just a shoelace.

They freaked out over a shoelace? I don’t buy it, and I didn’t buy the banana peel in the tree as being a threat or racist. This has gone beyond ridiculous.

If the wacko college president thinks it shows "courage" to report a shoelace as a noose, then...
... I guess he'd think it outright heroic for me to report the below as a "genocidal mass lynching:"

Banana peels and shoelaces are weapons of racism and mind destruction. We do live in a crazy mixed up world..

This read like something from the Union. But MSU seems to actually have an idiot such Lou Anna Simon for president.

No Spartan should ever feel targeted based on their race, or other ways in which they identify.
Meanwhile, the school probably has courses and/or campus events with titles like "Abolishing Whiteness" or "White Privilege."

The shoelace was threatening because they didn’t know how to tie it?

Any organization, institution or corporation, reflex the person at the top.
This little cupcake learned her fear of shoe laces from her school leaders and professors who placed in her mind the idea that such an object is a "racial" symbol.
Because who in the real world, besides progressives and looney liberals, looks at the world that way? No one I've ever met. (note to FReepers....that was a rhetorical pregunta.)
These colleges and universities nowadays are havens for programming the mush-for-brains minds of young students into social justice warriors. Stories abound recently of similar incidents.
This college president was very quick to place motive for the shoe lace as a "racial incident" before even questioning or investigating the alleged object and "incident". By her immature, quick-on-the-trigger response, she reinforces and enables her school's students to be whimpering little snowflakes.
As you so correctly labeled her actions, epic overreaction. And that is what the students learn to do....overreact to "normal" things in society.
