Washington (CNN)Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met this past summer with the former British spy whose dossier on alleged Russian efforts to aid the Trump campaign spawned months of investigations that have hobbled the Trump administration, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Information from Christopher Steele, a former MI-6 officer, could help investigators determine whether contacts between people associated with the Trump campaign and suspected Russian operatives broke any laws. CNN has learned that the FBI and the US intelligence community last year took the Steele dossier more seriously than the agencies have publicly acknowledged. James Clapper, then the director of national intelligence, said in a January 2017 statement that the intelligence community had "not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable."
The intelligence agencies, particularly the CIA, and the FBI took Steele's research seriously enough that they kept it out of a publicly-released January report on Russian meddling in the election in order to not divulge which parts of the dossier they had corroborated and how.

Bullcrap. They did that because they knew if was a fake tool from the Hillary campaign.
No, because he is not a prosecutor. He cannot even bring charges. He can investigate and that’s it. His final product must be approved by the DOJ before a case can proceed.
Even then he cannot prosecute Trump. That power is constitutionally clearly laid at the feet of Congress.
Comey, Clapper and Brennan (all perjurers) knew this “dossier” was fake. You don’t have to be an intel expert to know that “Sensitive Source” is never classified “Confidential.” This is on the first page and is a dead giveaway. Joe Biden even recognized it as nonsense. The FBI does “not divulge which parts of the dossier they had corroborated and how.” If there was anything to reveal it would have been leaked already. We were constantly informed of how expensive Ken Starr’s investigation was. If these shysters are charging $500 an hour they need to be investigated. They will have to come up with something to justify picking the lock to someone’s house and doing a KGB style raid. Cardinal Richelieu said, “If you give me six sentences written by the most innocent of men I will find something in them with which to hang him.” If they have access to Obama’s database they have the power to have people make false claims. They have already revealed that committing perjury is not a problem for deep state members.

Yes, the dossier is so obviously fake that Mueller can’t use it against Trump. So he is asking Steele to make up another dossier that he can use. Of course it will be fake too, but not so easily provably fake.
End his employment and end the charade.

Yea, that thought has been tickling the backside of my left brain for a little while now too. The only real reason to meet the author is to find out who paid him to create the fake dossier.
But now that the meeting has been leaked....one has to wonder just how much longer he has to live if the democrats paid him.
Realistic optimism, in the sense that ‘draining The Swamp’ is absolutely going to require some Swamp denizens surprisingly turning on the fellow Swamp dwellers. This is especially the case considering all the usual Council on Foreign Relations/Goldman-Sachs appointees in the Trump Administration.
