From what I’ve read, the security guard was not armed. The shooter had to know that a SWAT team would not be far behind him though.

I have heard that now, as well. In addition, he kept going door to door to explain the situation to hotel guests, until the police forced him to get treatment at the hospital, because he was wounded.
From what I saw in several articles the security guard was still ambulatory, though wounded, and continued to help clear guests from the 32nd floor until he was ordered to leave and accept medical attention. So my impression is that he survived (so long as there was not some drastic medical downturn later). I sure hope we will find out more about this heroic fellow in days to come. He could have stayed back to wait for reinforcements, especially if he was unarmed, but he knew that every second and minute was critical in locating the source of the shooting and he went looking for the gunman/gunmen. WHAT A HERO!!!!
Should be nominated for a presidential award.

Yes, indeed!!! He needs to be recognized at the White House. I’m sure someone like that does not seek or expect recognition, but it is important for ALL OF US that the truly best people like this be recognized and honored and celebrated.
Many other heroes emerged, within the concert crowd and at the hotel, etc. I trust that President Trump’s team will arrange some appropriate recognitions at a later date.
It seems to be often unreported that nut job shooters generally stop and/or suicide when confronted by armed or official resistance.
So armed citizens and security forces as well as law enforcement are forces for stopping such attacks.

It's not the recoil a bump-stock that's the problem with firing hundreds of consecutive shots from a rifle that's not designed to do such a thing, it's the tremendous heat that builds up in the rifle that will will cause a round to "cook-off" before the round is fully chambered and the bolt is locked in battery. When this happens, the unchambered round blows up in the shooter's face.
I wonder how many viable targets were in the killing box when he stopped.
10 minutes with a fully auto is a VERY long time.
Another 10 minutes would have been even worse.
One question I’ve not seen answered.... how many live rounds did this POS have left? IOW’s...was he really stopped, or did just run out of ammo?
I looked as if all the long guns the murderer had were some type of AR style weapons. They have buffer springs in the stocks that greatly reduce the recoil even on the 308/7.62 NATO calibers.
With those types of weapons you can fire all day long and not have any physical effects after.
Heck, my brother and I will go out on my property with a couple of our old Mosin Nagants (7.62 x 54R) and almost empty a 440 round "spam can" and those are old 1890s design bolt action with no recoil protection.
I did not know that he was the security guard.
