Opinion is divided this morning on Twitter among people who, unlike me, know more than the most basic basics about firearms. Its not a matter of mere curiosity; as you (should) know, fully automatic weapons have been illegal in the U.S. for decades, which is why even mass shooters hellbent on murder unto death never use them. If Stephen Paddock used a machine gun, how on earth did he get it?

Any exposure I’ve had to bump fire stocks shows they are highly inaccurate. I’d be interested in seeing the ballistic distribution spread. If it’s tight, smart money is on a select fire weapon and not any sort of bump firing rig.
Several years ago, while working part time at a gun store, a “customer” came in and offered to sell me an M-60, complete with tool kit and extra barrel. Ten grand, no questions. I hastily declined thinking it may be an ATFE “trap”. But the possibilities....they are out there.
slide/bump fire; why else would he have 10 weapons? If he had a full auto belt fed weapon, he would be much more efficient with just one weapon. Also, if I had an actual full auto belt fed and was proficient in its use (which I am), I would not fire through an entire belt non-stop like he did, then pause to get next weapon, repeat. I would fire targeted burst, slight pause, targeted burst, etc.
i am no full auto expert.
but can’t semi autos be converted to full auto rather cheaply?
actually retirees are the richest group of citizens as a whole.
Multiple weapons.
Oh, 400 rounds in rapid succession is not a lot. I was discussing this with one of my sons recently. With his Ruger 10/22 he can fire 25 round magazine in 15-25 seconds, swap out and resume in seconds. That’s 50-plus per minute. Ten minus equals 500. Granted larger caliber will be more taxing but bigger hands make up for that challenge.
From the description and the range of the shooting, was the shooter using something much more powerful than an assault rifle such as an AK-47/74 or an AR-15 variant? The LVMPD has show the types of weapons used, and one could be a highly-modified Browning Automatic Rifle fitted with a drum feed weapons magazine.
My question is, how did he get all of that into the hotel? Do places like this allow people to bring in guns, have no detection/security system etc. ? (I don’t travel much or stay in places like that, so I don’t know about them.)
Let’s see
10 minutes (600 seconds) = 515 wounded + 58 dead
that’s almost 1 killed or wounded every second
Thanks, all of you.
How likely do you think it is that this guy had it (them?) legally?
For example:

Completely not true.
Fifty years ago I read a letter to the editor from an angry anti-hunter who thought it was fun to hunt hunters. He claimed to use a silenced rifle with the silencer smuggled in from Mexico.
Possible a smuggled in firearm, but let’s wait and see.
Unless the acoustics were distorted in multiple audio recordings, I agree with you.
Admit it. You've never shot an AR-15, have you? Never done a mag dump with one?
You clearly don't know what you're talking about.
I posted on Twitter a question: did the shooter get inside help from the hotel clean staff to get all those weapons into the hotel room?
Sounded full auto to me
