Yeah belt fed is more for Rambo’s. Sustained fire can also be achieved with drums (50 or 100 x .223 with an AR) or even jungle clips and a quick hand.

It sounded like one medium caliber belt fed running out belts and at least one lighter caliber magazine fed rifle firing in bursts, possibly return fire, from all the audio I’ve heard. The gun running the long bursts was something in the .30 cal/7.62 range and was firing long, long bursts, longer than you will get out of most automatic rifles. Most notably, the cyclic rate didn’t decline like an overheating automatic rifle.

CNN is still reporting only 2 dead and not likely more than 1 shooter - "suspect dead"

That's clearly a belt fed weapon so I don't get why only 2 dead.
