Is it a passing storm or an existential problem? That’s a key question for the NFL as it grapples with the mushrooming controversy of players kneeling in protest during the national anthem, and President Donald Trump’s persistent bashing of the kneelers.
A new Yahoo Finance poll suggests the NFL has an enduring problem on its hands. Nearly 62% of 9,056 respondents told us they plan to watch less pro football in response to the anthem controversy. Thirty-six percent said they plan to buy less NFL merchandise, and 32% have chosen not to attend a game they would otherwise have gone to. Those findings all have financial implications for the NFL and its 32 team owners. We wanted to limit our survey, conducted online via SurveyMonkey from Sept. 28-29, to people who patronize the NFL, and exclude people who have an opinion but don’t watch football. So we only counted answers from people who describe themselves as pro football fans. Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they watch at least one game per week, with 46% of those saying they watch more than two games.

Maybe not, but during the Cowboys/Rams game today they showed some footage of players kneeling. Just to make sure the most people saw it, I guess.

Does that count former fans like me who will not watch any games?
The beer advertisers should be the target as their NFL advertising is not intended to convert consumers to their band of beer, but to confirm their current customers brand loyalty.
Same here for today but I didn't watch the previous MNF or TNF games either. I'm glad President Trump blew it all up. I'm convinced, with how crazy the NFL is acting, they were complicit in pushing that false narrative.

SomethingI have to admit that I watched today (on mute) because I wanted to see the stands and how many empty seats and see the boos.....guess what? The cameras never panned the stands.....unreal! So I turned it off and went back to watching golf.....I’m so done with the NFL.......love my Texans and I realize they aren’t “demonstrating” but have to cut it all off.....
I think it is a passing storm that will blow over in 20-30 years, but I might be wrong, it may not happen that quick.
