Many, I suspect, on a one-way trip to Florida. Democratic registration will no doubt increase to tsunami levels.

Free food, free drink, free ride, free room....Best fed "citizens" in the country.

It's wrong that they're citizens. 98.5% DON'T speak English....and 60% don't work.

“They have no electricity. Sometimes they have water, sometimes they don’t,” Brown said. “I’m afraid to leave them at home alone.”

What’s the safety issue today as opposed to last month? Oh, yeah, she doesn’t have free babysitters named Iphone and Video Games. No telling how much trouble they’d get into playing board games or picking up debris around the house.

Hey, who’s up for a free cruise to the mainland? Don’t forget to pack your swim suit! How many freebies do we get upon landing?

Imagine that you went to your job every day not to work, but to steal.

How would the company do?

It would probably be broke before too long.

This is what has happened to Puerto Rico.

They elected thieves to office.

Their politicians ran a big Ponzi Scheme and stole from it.

Why would people vote for known thieves?

Because the thieves promised to send some of the loot to the voters.

Morality does matter.

Immoral people destroy a society.

It happened to Puerto Rico.

Slightly off topic but I always wondered why all these "tropical paradises" are always so poor. As one who lives in the mostly-frigid and bone-chilling Northeast, I spend big money to go someplace warm each winter and each time, I never want to leave.

It seems to be that the opposite should be true. That tropical and semi-tropical areas should be the bastions of wealth and industry, where all the successful people want to live. Instead, all the hard-working wealthy people are living in the bone-chilling cities and towns of North America, freezing their butts off at 5am on train platforms, while large segments of the perpetually poor and work-shy live in year-round tropical comfort.

It's a mystery.

Re: “Many, I suspect, on a one-way trip to Florida. Democratic registration will no doubt increase to tsunami levels.”

Exactly.

It's my understanding that Puerto Rican voters were the swing vote that defeated GOP Congressman Allen West when he was re-districted in 2012.

Also, many Republicans do not understand that the “Second Wave” of Cubans that began to arrive in the late 1970s are just as Leftist as the Puerto Ricans.

Florida is going to be a battleground state for Republicans in every election for as far as we can see into the future.

The only “good news” is that Hispanics (excluding Republican Cubans) continue to have the lowest voter turn out of any major ethnic group in America.

Only 40%-50% of eligible Hispanic voters turn out, even for presidential elections.

When that number starts going up, as it already has for eligible Black voters, it's going to be “lights out” for Republicans in Florida, and, sooner or later, also in Texas.

Houston = culture of self reliance; people helping people

Puerto Rico = culture of dependency; helpless without government

A massive Natl Guard presence is needed now.
PR has been being dying for decades .
They can not oversees handle the recovery .
Trump needs a military run recovery .

The big problem with Puerto Rico and most of the other islands with a few exceptions like St.johns island,is that the building codes are either weak or non-existent.

Building codes in the Keys and S.Fla. are super strong which is why even though we get strong storms few are killed and many of the newer buildings usually ride the storm out. Our roofs and shutters are build for 150 mph winds, few used such standards. It makes all the difference.

In Puerto Rico will be rebuilding things every time they have a storm since they have no strong codes.

Wanna know what is going on in Puerto Rico? Here it is:

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/09/30/puerto-rico-cop-calls-u-s-radio-station-reporting-corrupt-mayor-of-san-juan-and-request-for-help/

This video is six minutes long and is a telephone call by a Puerto Rican female police officer who is telling the real truth of how no aide is allowed to reach the people who need it.
Sobbing all the way through the call the female police officer who calls to a Spanish station in Miami begs for Pres. Trump to send U.S. troops into Puerto Rico to distribute the desperately needed aide.
Seems the Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello, won't do anything to help anyone unless he's accompanied by a TV camera. Everything he does is political about keeping his sorry ass in office.
Seems he may have fooled Trump as well.
The officer tells how the Governor and some mayors have prevented police from giving aide using bureaucratic methods of policies, laws, permits for sending aide. The aide sits and goes nowhere while thousands of locals starve.
Sick,it's the story of how an island nation goes communist.
