Warning: Offensive Language
At a time when discussions of race and racism are constantly in and out of the news cycle, another incident, this time at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Preparatory School, is furthering the discussion of the two in America.
Racist slurs were found on five whiteboards outside the rooms of five black preparatory cadets. The slur, written in black dry-erase marker, said, "Go home n******."
The individual or individuals who wrote the racist message have yet to be identified.
Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Jay Silveria took the time to address all the cadets at the United States Air Force Academy.
The superintendent stated:
You may have heard that some people down in the prep school wrote some racial slurs on some message boards ... If you're outraged by those words, then you're in the right place. That kind of behavior has no place at the prep school, it has no place at USAFA, and it has no place in the United States Air Force. You should be outraged not only as an Airman but as a human being.
The superintendent praised the diversity of the Air Force and stated that diversity made them strong. He did not hold back on his thoughts of those who promote racism either. Without hesitation, the lieutenant general said, "If you can't treat someone with dignity and respect, then get out."
As the investigation is underway, it will be important to find the truth and those responsible. Anyone involved should be found and held accountable, whether it be a real instance of racism or if it turns out to be a hoax.
Lt Gen Silveria said one other thing that rang out.
"No one can write on a board and take away our ideals," he stated.
These words do not just apply to USAFA and the military. They can be applied to the nation as a whole. As a nation that is already polarized down political lines and becoming polarized along racial lines by the day, it is important to understand that racists and race baiters cannot take away what we stand for as a country.
For those who protest NFL players for taking a knee during the national anthem, for those who consider the players to be unpatriotic for their behavior, now is a good time, whether this instance is true or not, to condemn racism and thank, regardless of their race, gender, or religion, all those who serve this great nation.

Beautifully said.
Our times reflect chaos theory writ large.
A gnat can cause a hurricane. Pathetic.
No kidding. The swamp is draining us.
Good point.
What is the demographic breakdown of students who attend this Prep School? These are students who didn’t make the cut to attend the USAFA. They are given ten months of school to try to qualify. I would like to see a yearly breakdown of demographics of students at this school. Do the other academies have similar programs?
The next rung on the ladder is "don't care".
The one after that is going to be why they can't have nice things.
Yes, it is probably above 90% of the time that these end up being racial scams.
It has been a while since I have been involved in details (so this explanation may be lacking in the latest details) but generally those in the Prep School are enlisted personnel in active or reserve service (not coming out of high school or college) who potentially qualify for admission and have applied and been recommended by their unit commanders. However, they have been out of the academic scene for a while. These people usually require some care and brush up for the academics as well as further evaluation for final appointment. After a training period, the prep school then handles the appointments directly with Admissions. In the case of USAFA, the prep school is right on the Academy grounds and run by AF people, but completely separate from the main USAFA campus.
These prep school appointments are not done through the political system such as appointment by the President, Senator, or Congressman as the vast majority of other new cadet appointment are done. They are competitive based upon qualifications, final Academy needs before the year begins, and are done among the single prep academy group.
The demographics would vary with each prep school class according to who makes the cut to get accepted for that phase of training before appointment.
I hope that helps.
There have been cases of gay groups writing graffiti against gays on their own buildings, and then blaming someone else, in order to get victim momentum.
HS classmate of mine went to Army Prep at Ft. Monmouth. He was recruited for the West Point football team, but really didn’t have the grades or ACT scores to qualify straight out of high school.
Yes, getting enlisted people ready for the academies is one reason the prep schools exist. But the much bigger "real" reasons are (a) athletic recruits, and (b) diversity. Which of course overlap. For the football team, it is essentially a redshirt year. And a large percentage of black cadets are prep school graduates (whether or not they are athletes).
I disagree. It is massive overkill for a 3-star general to get involved at this stage. Investigate and determine the facts first.
He’s the Superintendent! What the hell else should he be doing?
I do not think 3-star generals should be responding to anonymous writing on white boards. I think that is something a company commander (captain) should deal with. We disagree. Not sure why you keep responding to this or why you think you know anything about military leadership (you’ll probably respond by explaining. All I can tell you is that most guys who have served will agree with me.) I guess this is fun for u. Whatever. I am done.
“the general just issued a warning in which he said it will not be tolerated and he is right.”
And he would throw out any White person that wrote something like that. . .let’s see. . .if it was a Black guy that wrote that, you know, one of those BLM attention-seeking I am victim types, how much would you like to wager the superintendent would not eject the guy.
Constitutionally protected speech, yes it is.
You can rant all you want as long as you do so as a private citizen but that right is tempered by where you are, and in this case, the AFA has published standards of behavior and rules regarding conduct, dress and appearance.
Yes, but leaders don’t over-react as the superintendent did. . .all before an investigation was done and there is a chance, a good chance, that it is a hoax.
A real leader does not jump in and rant at subordinates until he has the fact.
Excellent post.
Well done.
The left is filled with liars and manipulators. I give this a 99% chance of being fake - written by black activists to gin up the pity party and any benefits from the pity party.
Other liberals groups do the same - Matthew Sheppard was a former lover of his killer... his killer was NOT A CONSERVATIVE WHITE MAN - - the lesbian who blamed ‘white men’ for carving ‘hate messages’ into her skin - had carved the messages herself... The college 'news editor' wrote RAPE THREATS to herself - on and on and on...
We know who democrats are now... they've shown their hand a few hundred times in the last few years.
Don't you know that Kaslin?
This crap has been going on for decades with liberals and their pet victim groups. They're mostly liars, trolls, psychopaths and criminals.
The fact that you find this believable in spite of a long history of lies is amazing.
I served, and I agree with YOU. 😀😀😄👍
Good post bro.
