Can anyone on this forum attempt to explain to me the discrepancy between the NFL rules as enumerated in their manual and the quotes attributed to these goons?

In this post it says that it is not mandatory for the players to stand, and it is a personal choice. Yet in other posts, I have read passages from the rules book that state unambiguously that the players ARE required to stand at attention with their helmets in their left hands.

Which is it???

It probably depends on your reason for kneeling. If you are kneeling because Trump said teams should fire the SOBs who kneel, then you are ok. If you kneel because you hate the United States of America, then you are ok. I bet if a player kneeled during the National Anthem in prayer for the unborn who have been slaughtered by the millions, then he might be fined. If he qualified it by praying for the slaughter of millions of unborn babies of color, then he could probably get away with it. That’s iffy.

But you won’t see that in the NFL. They want a cure for babies and a cure for breast cancer. And a cure for STDs, I would guess. And relief from child support payments. ...

The quotes are not from the NFL rule book. They are from non-public ‘operations manual’ intended to help owners convey a uniform experience at games in different stadiums.

The Commissioner and owners have broad power to make stuff up on the fly, or to accommodate players beyond guidelines, as long as there is nothing specific in the agreement with the players’ association.

Trump is right: This is anti-Americanism by the the Commissioner and the owners.

You are correct. This statement from the Dolphins is a lie.

Here’s from the Operations Manual, “according to an NFL spokesman”:

The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. ... Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

I see now that it’s fairly squishy. They “must” be on the field, and “should” stand, but failure “may”, not “shall”, result in fines &c, and only for not being on the field.

Basically, the NFL has allowed players and teams to break their own rules, and now they are acting surprised that anyone minds, despite the rules themselves stating they expect to be judged according to their actions.

The players’ statements now are contrary to the rules, and the NFL doesn’t care.

Doesn't matter to me either way because I refuse to watch and have not watched a bunch of over paid black drug using thugs working for K Street in over 10-12 years and nothing that happens here will change that.

You probably read that put these owners who have to coddle these black thugs will not enforce it fearing that these childish black thugs will lay down on them during the next game and lose them millions.

So do not lose sleep over it and do not ever watch it again because when this all blows over and the stadiums are full again with adoring fans most of America will forget that this ever happened......idiots

An announcer at a game last night said for all to stand for the national anthem. He didn’t say if you feel like it. At least, they didn’t change that - yet.

More important are our National Codes/laws which tell us exactly how to behave when our National Anthem is played/sung.

If the NFL thugs and owners don’t like our National Codes/laws re respect to our flag and national anthem. They should get them changed, like those, who don’t like our immigration laws should do instead of breaking the laws.

Yes there are laws/rules re how to behave when our National Anthem is being played.

To: punchamullah; All

If you’re a Coach or Owner with Socialist and Anti-American leanings, you can disregard the handbook.

If you’re a Coach or Owner with Conservative and Pro-American leanings, you will be beaten about the head with said handbook until you come around to Socialist and Anti-American leanings.

It’s pretty simple and it applies to ANY perceived injustice that the Socialists want highlighted on any given day.
