A couple of thoughts on the passing scene:
~Roy Moore beats Luther Strange in Alabama. There were certain local factors in play: Mr Strange and the corrupt former governor Bentley had enjoyed a mutually beneficially relationship whereby then Attorney-General Strange called on the legislature to suspend impeachment proceedings against the Governor, and Governor Bentley then appointed Strange to the Senate. Whether a creature from the Alabama swamp is best suited to drain the Washington swamp is a reasonable question for voters to ponder.
Whereas, whatever one feels about Roy Moore, he's principled enough to be willing to lose his job over the Ten Commandments and same-sex marriage. That's unusual in American politics.
But in a certain sense this election was a primary between the industrial-strength Bannonite MAGAlicious Donald J Trump (as represented by Moore) and the house-trained semi-neutered General Kellyfied McMasterized Donald J Trump (as represented by Strange). And the house-trained Trump lost. There's a lesson in that: The man who said he could shoot a guy on Fifth Avenue and his base would stick with him was essentially told by the base that, when he wanders too far down the GOP establishment end of things, the base is just as happy to shoot him.

We used to see Steyn posted here a lot. Always a good read.
Between Rummyfan & me I think we’re catching most of them. I’m not sure how many would enjoy his music pieces. I have posted some. Even this one goes on to ‘other business’, but those first few paragraphs were amusing & I thought others would enjoy.
The base did not say they would shoot him.
I know he’s using this as a funny catch phrase, but I think it’s in poor taste.
Steyn is a good guy, but I don’t care for this comment.
Trump did say that HE could shoot someone on 5th Avenue & his base would stick with him. In this case, the base did not stick with him. Steyn got it right.
You DO NOT use assassination language to make a point.
I like Steyn, but that’s not acceptable.
He could have simply said, these folks did not follow Trump, as he had predicted they would.
Trump never stated he would be happy to shoot a member of his base, so this wasn't simply flipping it.
Same here.
Steyn should know that when Trump said that it was in the context of pointing out the “news” media’s dishonesty Trump said that the “journalists” were saying that he could shoot someone on (I think) 5th Avenue in broad daylight and still be supported by his followers.
Thanks Big Red.
Come one now. This is humor. People are hyperventilating over the most ridiculous stuff these days.
As I said, I like Steyn. I like his personality and I like his politics. Sorry, but there are some things I don’t mention in the line of humor.
Rape, child abuse, and the shooting of my president,... just not funny for me.
I don’t like the Left to do it. I don’t like the Right to do it.
