Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., predicted Wednesday that President Trump would soon move on his own to make health insurance more affordable, after the Senate failed again this week to advance any bill to reform federal healthcare policy.
Paul he has been pitching the idea of using the Employee Retirement Income Security Act to let people buy insurance across state lines. That law already allows corporations to buy insurance across state lines for their workers if they are located in several states.
Paul's idea is to let individuals form associations and do the same thing, and he said Trump administration officials have been "enthusiastic" about the idea.
"It already exists," Paul said. "What I'm trying to do is let individuals get into that marketplace, and this would be an enormous benefit."

And NATURALLY, the Dems/leftists will sue to stop this, which means, once again, that the Dems/leftists will be on the wrong side of helping working American survive, by trying to actively thwart Americans from buying better and less expensive healthcare insurance for no other reason than the ideology that Americans should never be allowed a free choice for anything and that the government should have a total monopoly on healthcare.
Trump readies executive order that will let consumers cross state lines to buy health insurance

Donald Trump is preparing an executive order that would achieve a long standing goal of insurance reform advocates.
The president’s executive order will reportedly allow individuals to join group plans from out of state. Current law allows companies to sell across state linesn but due to red tape and resistance by state insurance officials, most companies refuse to take advantage of the opportunity. The order would allow consumers to join associations and group health plans located in other states.
ABC News:
Current law allows companies to sell health insurance across state lines, but so far few have offered out-of-state policies. To date, although all states have the authority to do so, only six have enacted across state lines legislation.
And even among states that passed laws to allow out-of-state sales, no insurer has entered the market. Skeptics point out the difficulties that companies face in developing a health insurance product that can be sold in multiple states. They include challenges in building a provider network with competitive rates, regulatory and administrative differences across states and the impact on risk pools that could result in higher premiums for less-healthy individuals.
Proponents of the plan insist it can be done.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, touted the idea Wednesday morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
“I believe President Trump can legalize, on his own, the ability of individuals to join a group or health association across state lines to buy insurance,” said Paul.
While the White House has not offered further guidance on the executive order Trump mentioned, Paul said hes discussed his proposal with the president.

“Dems/leftists will sue to stop this”
They’ll go further than suing. It’ll be one more reason for impeachment for them.
Rand Paul, IMHO, is the only principled Senator out the 100. He’s still pushing for full repeal.
He said immediately that he would not vote for the Lindsey Graham proposal, because while it made some changes, it simply formalized the corrupt subsidies to Obamacare crony insurance companies.
At least Rand Paul is trying to do something about healthcare. McCain, Collins and others vote against it and say bipartisan work needs to be done, but don’t do anything.
This would be a devastating, Executive-level uppercut to the glass jaw of McConnell and his snarky cabal of malcontents, and I, for one, would absolutely LOVE to see Trump do it so I could enjoy the firework BANG-BANG-POW of elitist heads exploding all across the country.
How ya like me now!?

And it would be unconstitutional on 10th Amendment and separation of powers issues. The president can’t decree what a state has to allow to sell in its borders.
Congress probably can under the Commerce Clause, but that would be its own fight.
Regardless, this idea is not remotely the cure-all that its advocates claim it is. Some states allow this already, and as far as I know, no plan has been created as a result.
And the next socialist President will craft an E.O. cancelling all of Trump’s actions. How ‘bout Congress passes laws.
Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) seems to have partially solved the across state line problem without congress sor:
Illinois; Texas; New Mexico; Oklahoma and Montana.

I have been totally focused on Rand during this entire series of skirmishes. He is one of the strongest and stubborn voices against a return to feudalism.
What a coward. Allow me to translate:
“Congress, bereft of any sense of duty, loyalty to the represented, or honor in any measurable quantity, chose to do nothing on what we promised we’d do for over seven years.
Instead, we are going to leave it to the man we’ve actively opposed and sabotaged at every turn to make good on the promises we made to you.
Vote GOP!”
In spite of missteps during the campaign, I still like Rand Paul a lot. It’s telling that the US Senate didn’t include him on every attempted health care reform bill. He seems to get it that it’s obscene profiteering that has to be brought under control for any real reform to occur. All the other US Senators are trying to do it without financially getting their paymasters under control.
The Trump team are scary smart and competent
What it should do, is put pressure on the States to address the issue in keeping with the concept. Additionally, since it is intended to address the cost side of health care, the D’s and GOPe will not have a believable justification to oppose this. That said, given that most politicians are attorneys (mostly scum of the Earth), know that they will argue against any steps which are detrimental to the cause of single-payer.
And the next socialist President will craft an E.O. cancelling all of Trumps actions. How bout Congress passes laws.
We’re rapidly becoming Imperial Rome where the Senate meets and does nothing. Human nature seems to always produce those who want the trappings of power, but not the responsibility.
Susan Collins is a waste of skin.
The power over healthcare is not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, therefore, the power over healthcare is reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Amendment 10
Congress passed ERISA, which authorizes this, in the 70’s.
Not a cure-all indeed but could be a big deal depending on how it’s done.
ERISA covers a different type of insurance plan and those plans already work across state lines - union plans, etc.
