Trump: NFL owners 'afraid' to take action against kneeling players
Fox News ^ | September 28,2017

Posted on 09/28/2017 7:33:21 AM PDT by Hojczyk

President Trump, in an exclusive interview with "Fox & Friends," said that NFL owners are “afraid” to act against their players protesting the national anthem at games across the country.

“The NFL is in a box and they have to do something about it,” Trump told Fox News' Pete Hegseth, in the interview aired Thursday morning.

“I think they’re afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.

In the same interview, Trump also touted the newly released Republican tax reform framework, describing the plan as the “largest reduction in terms of dollars in any plan in the history of the country.”

The president reiterated that the NFL has a wide range of rules, suggesting the league should apply new rules to those who would protest the anthem by kneeling.

“They have rules for everything—you can’t dance in the end zone, you can’t wear pink socks relative to breast cancer—they have rules for everything,” the president told Hegseth, a “Fox & Friends” weekend co-host and Fox News political analyst.

He added: “Why aren’t they honoring this country by enforcing a rule that’s been in existence for a long time?”

But he said, “I have so many friends that are owners, and they are in a box.”

Trump’s comments come after days of back-and-forth criticism with the NFL and its players for “disrespecting our country.”

Trump suggested that stadiums are “losing” fans amid the controversy. “The stadiums are losing—there are a lot of empty seats, I couldn’t even believe it,” Trump said.

Trump kicked up a firestorm over the kneeling protests last week, after criticizing NFL players for not standing for the anthem.

I don’t watch or even keep up with the players. The thrill of watching football left me 10 years ago. I watch college football.

You can actually order these shirts. Wouldn't it be funny if people went to NFL games wearing these.

You are also correct. However, I’m not that sure that MANY High School Graduates of the last TWENTY FIVE years know who Benedict Arnold was or even who the TORIES were.
After all, they were taught the “modern” version of American history.

The initial break is hard but humans are creatures of habit and once you acquire a new habit one adjusts. I won’t say it will be better or worse (it could be either) but of course it will be different. You may miss it for a while and the temptation to return might be strong but the longer the change happens the easier it will get.

I already made my decision. It started with cancelling my NFL Red Zone subscription. I will not watch another game this season.

Last weekend gave me all I needed to make a decision. I never had anything against the Steelers, now I despise them. The harder and faster the NFL gets spanked the faster we can get back to civility, then I’ll watch again.

I know it’s hard if you love the game...but for the love of the game please stop watching now.

Its probably moot, but I'm going to wait and see what happens this weekend. The NFL was a great American institution for decades - a uniquely American game played to an American standard of excellence, watched by patriotic fans.

I think the left has been targeting the NFL for years...so this latest assault is a test to me - will the NFL resist the left, or join it. I want to give it one last chance...if for no other reason, I'd like for the left to be prevented from collecting another scalp in its culture war.

Admittedly, its probably too late though - the young players appear to be brainwashed.

I expect Goodell to “resign” by Sunday. I also expect the league to announce full compliance with the Anthem rule shall be expected oo heavy fines will be levied on the Black protestors ( they are all black)

The NFL is a league held hostage by its employees and its fans. They need to decide who is more important--our job is to give them a little "help" with a boycott that stings.

This is precisely why it's important to take down the NFL on this, to show the power we have, and that we aren't going to take it anymore from the Left.

I appreciate your reply and understand your point, however, I can't totally agree. When I talked about this situation being manipulated by individuals who have an axe to grind totally apart from sports, I was not just referring to one side of the political wars.

I don't want to "take down the NFL". I enjoy professional football and refuse to give up something I enjoy to make a political statement. I don't harbor any resentment for the players success, either athletic or economic, but I don't grant them a right to burden me with their grievance. I also refuse to accept disrespect for the flag and other symbols of our national identity as a price for admission to the show. As the providers of a product I enjoy and want to purchase, I expect the ownership provide that product absent the unnecessary and unappreciated distractions they have allowed to be included.

In summary, I am a customer and want to be treated as such.

And you know something the verdict is still out on whether they’re right or wrong.

The NFL will lose some fans, it's mostly a question of how many. And some fans will come and go depending on their level of disgust with the antics of the players, owners and league officials.

I hope they lose enough of their audience to take a serious financial hit for all who are feasting on the NFL gravy train.

after just last week, im done...i even tried watching, and it just didnt ‘feel” right...kinda felt guilty and embarrassed. For them and the owners to pull that..after what soldiers have done to plant that flag after some of the most horrific battles in history....they cant put aside 2 lousy gd minutes for that flag....shame on them.

You can’t blame the (planation) owners. When the players (field hands) band together and rebel, the owners have to capitulate or else the games won’t be played (the cotton won’t get picked).

LOL On that I totally agree. (I also suspect that might not be the only issue on which we would agree.)
