This Bills Player Did Something More Disrespectful than Kneel During the Anthem

Over 150 football players took a knee or remained in the locker room Sunday during the playing of the national anthem at NFL games across the country. Their choice to ignore the anthem came after President Trump called Colin Kaepernick an SOB for starting the controversial action to protest racial injustice.

One Pittsburgh Steeler player actually stood for the anthem, only to later apologize to his teammates and franchise.

As a Buffalo Bills fan, I had hoped at least they would remain standing for our law enforcement, as they've done in the past during the kneeling controversy. However, I was very mistaken. Not only did several of the players kneel, one player took it a few shameful steps further.

Asked about his stretches after the game, the running back explained that he cares about the flag, but not our "jerk" of a president.

"The flag, the national anthem means a lot to me, to my teammates," McCoy said after the game. "We had a long meeting Saturday night, and I was very bothered by the comments of our president, of this country. As a president, you're supposed to lead, and you're supposed to bring us together. You're supposed to lead this country. I can't stand and support something where our leader of this country is just acting like a jerk, angry and upset about NFL players protesting in a peaceful manner."

Well, former Bills player and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly was having none of it. While he "likes" McCoy, Kelly "100 percent" disagrees with his behavior.

"You want to kneel? Fine. But when you go and do what he did yesterday, that sort of bummed me out. And I lost a lot of respect for him. ... You want to kneel? That's your prerogative. I would never do that. I will always stand, thank the good Lord for everything I got. But when you disrespect the way he did and just go by his everyday duty in the national anthem being sung? Uh-uh. I won't go for that."

It's especially a shame that McCoy acted as he did over the weekend, considering the moving gesture he made last year. In the heat of Kaepernick's protest, McCoy invited over a dozen local police officers to a Bills game for recognition.

“Just an appreciation type of thing,” McCoy said at the time. “Cause they’re taking so much heat right now. There’s things that are happening that’s definitely wrong but I just feel like there’s bad people, there’s bad cops and there’s good cops.”

Fast forward a year later, and the running back is doing leg stretches during the anthem.

The Bills may have won the battle on the field Sunday against the Broncos, but they lost plenty of respect.

One stadium employee, Erich Nikischer, was so upset over the Bills behavior that he quit his job at New Era Field after 30 years.

“I waited until the National Anthem ended, I took off my shirt, threw my Bills hat on the ground, walked out,” he said.

Why does he choose to keep his slave owner's last name?

I think he should trace his ROOTS and change his last name to Baracko Husseini Odumba or whatever it is. What a hypocrite.

If employees in any regular company diverted the work-agenda on the employer’s time to their personal political agenda, they could get fired and it’s not about the government taking aware their “freedom of speech”. It’s their employer’s “freedom of speech” on their dime, to say “not on my time”.

So you can only conclude that NFL and NFL team officials have been persuaded, cajoled, conned, or just agreed to be pulled into politicizing a segment of the presentation of their games, and they try to tell the public “it is not divisive”.

It is not divisive for team members to lift up and promote what is in fact an issue that is political and is controversial because there is not public consensus about it, but instead public division? And to do it not just on the employers dime and the employers time, but amid the singing of national anthem as well?

It’s all not divisive?

On what planet?

And the NFL will continue to be silent...

Of course, if they actually did something meaningful, a bunch of other copy-cat snowflakes would start doing it too...

“Asked about his stretches after the game, the running back explained that he cares about the flag, but not our “jerk” of a president.”

OK, there it is, that’s what it is.
I couldn’t understand why these prima donna athletes, given everything, all the material things the greatest country in the world has to give, would disrespect her.

It’s not so much ridiculous protest over black thugs getting their tops popped by cops (blacks: 12% of the population, responsible for 50% of the homicides).
It’s black players (80% of the NFL) mooning over their gay Boy King gone missing and butt-hurt over being called SOBs for acting like that original showboat punk, Iforgethisname. IOW “resistance”.
So they disrespect America’s song. That’ll show him/us!
In a few months we will have forgotten them. Resist the NFL.

“...after President Trump called Colin Kaepernick an SOB for starting the controversial action to protest racial injustice.”

I think Trump used SOB in a generic way, the way we say “So and so is the meanest SOB out there” or something. I may be wrong but I’m not sure if it was a specific reference to Kaepernick but rather, all of these who are slouching off.
