Trump acknowledged on Twitter late Monday Puerto Rico was 'in deep trouble'. He also wrote that the US unincorporated territory has 'billions of dollars owed to Wall Street and the banks'. Hurricanes Maria & Irma killed 13 people with Maria almost completely destroying telecommunication networks. 'Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble,' Trump tweeted.

'It's old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities - and doing well. #FEMA.'

So, every liberal thinks the US is an endless supply of $$$ regardless. The “celebrities” are already on the bandwagon raising hell. This is getting beyond old.

Why can’t these celebs donate billions? They have it collectively for sure....

Meanwhile, Marc Anthony had some scathing words for Trump, pleading with the president to forget about football and focus instead on hurricane-hammered Puerto Rico.

Anthony tweeted on Monday night: ‘Mr. President shut the f-— up about NFL. Do something about our people in need in #PuertoRico. We are American Citizens too.’

(yup, we multi-millionaires are asking YOU to throw more tax dollars around)

“John Legend tweeted criticism of Trump’s tweet: ‘POS POTUS insults Puerto Rico while they’re going through a terrible humanitarian crisis.’

(I read the entire article and nowhere did Trump “insult” PR. Simply statued they owned BILLIONS they’ve yet to repay.)

‘Puerto Ricans are Americans,’ said Representative Nydia Velazquez, a Democrat from New York who traveled to Puerto Rico over the weekend to assess the damage. ‘We cannot and will not turn our backs on them.’

(really? I’ll bet you won’t find a single American flag flying overtop the PR flag... I’ll take a wild guess these folks call themselves Puerto Ricans, NOT Americans.)

So Wall Street takes the insurance on anything destroyed as their settlement and forecloses leaving Puerto Rico about on par with Cuba?

You can bet they're thinking of how to get their money back now that Statehood isn't happening and don't give a damn how Puerto Rico continues to exist or ceases to exist as a result. After all, it's Wall Street and the Banksters who are too big to fail, not mere States or Territories.

I know. Too bad we cannot sell PR to another country, like Mexico or Brazil?

I understand what you’re saying, but if it’s OK for PR to get away with such debt, why don’t we let everyone who lives way past their means just get a free pass?

I read somewhere that more than half the island is on American welfare and food stamps. They’ve been living free for generations.

Now more of them want to become a state; no thanks.

We should return PR to Spain, southern California to Mexico, and NYC to Holland - but “as is”, with no returns...

While in theory Trump is right, in practice and reality, the banks do have a claim, but the assets are gone. Puerto Rico no longer exists.

What remains is a destroyed hulk of an island with no ability to pay and no means of resurrection.

The creditors have two choices...... Write off the bad credit or extend the terms for 100 years.

I don’t see anything untrue about what he said. But of course the MSM will use it to make him seem heartless.

My family lived there in the 60’s ,,, terrible crime then same as now.. I worked in telecom in the 90’s and had to deal with the PR office ,, out of 300 employees only 2 spoke English and finding anyone motivated enough to actually work a problem was a chore... It’s the most corrupt island in the Caribbean ,, the reason nothing works is because they stole all the money rather than using it for it’s intended purpose.

Does our Social Security system situation sound familiar?

PR is like that useless cousin who shows up on your doorstep when he needs money. You know he’ll waste it and be back for more in a couple years but you give it because Aunt Betty will tsk, tsk until you do.

Sure, the hurricanes aren’t their fault but their constant state of bankruptcy is. It’s time to put our foot down.

Had to search their debt, had no idea it was this bad:

Puerto Rico Gov. Alejandro García Padilla finally admitted defeat on Sunday, telling The New York Times that the island could not pay its massive $72 billion debt. Instead of taking on another round of high-interest borrowing to delay the inevitable default, he said it’s time for Puerto Rico’s creditors to “share the sacrifices” that the island’s residents have already had to bear.

1. All Puerto Ricans are Americans, really.
2. Congress could easily address this situation, but hasn’t.
3. Americans on the mainland hold Puerto Rico’s debt.
4. Puerto Rico matters for 2016. Just ask Jeb Bush.
5. What’s happening in Puerto Rico reflects the wider evisceration of the American middle class.
