Ben Roethlisberger regrets anthem decision, says Steelers won't do it again
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | September 25, 2017 | by SEAN GENTILLE

The Steelers will be on the sideline during the national anthem in future games, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and defensive end Cam Heyward said during a news conference Monday.

Roethlisberger, via a statement posted on his website, said he has regrets over the Steelers’ decision to wait in the tunnel during the national anthem at Sunday’s game in Chicago, but that the team’s intent was not to protest the song, the flag or the military.

Roethlisberger said that he personally believes that protests have no place during the national anthem, but that the idea was to show unity as a team in the wake of president Donald Trump saying NFL teams should fire players who kneel for the anthem.

I just purchased an Alejandro Villanueva jersey even though I am not a Steeler fan. It is now the biggest selling NFL jersey.

It’s clear ol’ Ben understands the Steelers fans ... what their reaction will be if the lockerroom boys pull this crap at their home field in Pittsburg on 10/8!

Whatever his reason, Ben's response is superior to many, and if Trump achieves some logical, reasonable, coherent responses from players themselves, then he is beginning to penetrate the veil of progressive tyranny over the minds and tongues of those who have allowed themselves to be bound by political correctness and censorship.

As most non-"Progressives" have found, looking for a logical, reasonable response from any Progressive cult member is like "looking for hens' teeth."

interesting that Roethlisberger and Heyward had to issue the mea culpa when it appears it was Tomlin’s decision to hide the team in the first place.

The idea was to be unified as a team when so much attention is paid to things dividing our country,...

The scumbags doing the kneeling are the ones doing the dividing, you intellectually inbred, simpering, thumb-sucking idiot.

And bull****. Your team acted in support of those who are agitproping against policing the murderers, thugs, rapists and thieves that make life in ‘black communities’ such a nightmare.

He let the brave Villaneuva take all the hostility himself from his teammates and the Steelers’ pathetic excuse for a coach, who had the gall to criticize him for doing it. Now that its costless and easy to do so, he says he wishes he had done this too, in a small voice from under the bleachers trying to please both sides, and terrified that fans who buy his endorsed stuff won’t be buying as much in the future.

Nothing wrong with admitting you were wrong and learned your lesson. There is grace in that.

President Trump lanced the poisonous phony racial protest boil in the NFL.

Black players can better serve the black community by taking their passion and contributing to their communities growth & prosperity! Instead of destroying the dream for the next generation of football players!

Any marketer can tell you to know your customer, and NEVER shite where you eat!

Get your butts on the field and stand up for America, not hide in a hole like a coward.

There was only one Steeler worth his metal.

It might have been written by a PR hack, but it also reinforces something that I said yesterday when I said that I wouldn't be surprised if every Pittsburgh player would probably be standing for the national anthem before their next game:

Alejandro Villanueva embarrassed the sh!t out of those Pittsburgh players who cowered in the locker room during the national anthem yesterday.

One man out of 46 does the right thing ... and then the other 45 fall into line.

THIS IS LEADERSHIP BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES, PEOPLE.

You are so right! Never heard Big Ben use any of these phrases in prior discussions. Actions do have consequences... I guess someone must have told Big Ben to backtrack as quickly as possible. As a long-time Steeler fan (50 years), I am done with this team and I never thought I would say that ever.

I know that what I would spend on Steeler gear each year will go to other groups I can support and for people like “Big Ben” what I spend is just a small drop in the bucket. No more!

$20? Where are any tickets priced at $20. Try 100. BTW Chicago already taxes tickets to NFL games.

Which is why Mike Tomlin is so P.O.-ed at him for doing it.

Let us not be so quick to denigrate Ben and others who recognize the mistake and resolve not to make it again. I give him credit for being one of the early voices to stand up to stand up to fellow players and the NFL.

I live in western PA, and Ben puts his money where his mouth is. He has great respect for veterans, and for years has donated dogs and training for police K-9 units locally and around the country.
