I don't think Tomlin made the decision to hide the team. I think he just wanted the entire team to do the same thing -- regardless of what they decided.

I'm not a fan of Tomlin, but I understand what motivated him yesterday.

I appreciate the unique diversity in my team and throughout the league and completely support the call for social change and the pursuit of true equality.

If that's what he believes, he should define what he means by "true equality" and state EXACTLY what social change is needed to achieve this utopian goal?

This is like people demanding that others pay higher taxes but won't specify the exact tax rate they would impose. People who talk about lofty goals usually have no idea how to realize them or what unintended consequences may arise. They are just emotional bloviators.

If you are going to buy a Villanueva jersey, don’t get the NFL one get his jersey from when he played for ARMY #82. That way the money goes to the NCAA, and if you go to the Army website they get the money.

Well Ben, you are finding out the hard way what it takes to be a 6 o’clock man… straight up and down. The Kneelers through some perverted logic thought a path could be taken that let them off the hook from making a decision. Now they have both sides shooting at them.

” I appreciate the unique diversity in my team and throughout the league and completely support the call for social change and the pursuit of true equality.”

What portion of true equality would he support? Start with doing away with affirmative action? Level the playing field, right Ben?

Stupid people are better off employing their ears rather than their tongues.

This backtracking is happening pretty fast. As a QB Roethlisberger probably has a number of endorsement contracts. My guess is one or more of them have already contacted his agent expressing their displeasure and threatening to terminate their contract with him.

They are proud to show their hatred for our country and that’s that. I don’t think any apology would work at this point. We know how they really feel now.

but that the team’s intent was not to protest the song, the flag or the military.

This is the same twisted BS I heard from other players. They are following Kaepernick's very clear #BLM narrative of "frying pigs like bacon," Fidel Castro is a hero, American police brutality, and supposed systemic white oppression of blacks - YET the followers who kneeled yesterday are saying "no, we really respect the police and military, its just that we are for 'unity' and against 'divisiveness.' "

its quite pathetic.

He actually hid his tears? Did the poor lad have his hands slapped too hard? NO GUTS, NO GLORY.
NOTHING FOUND HERE. Poor guy doesn’t understand this isn’t about TRUMP. Not at all. It’s about RESPECT, something few on the field have trouble defining. IT’S ABOUT PRINCIPLES. IT’S ABOUT PRIDE FOR OUR COUNTRY, OUR FALLEN MILITARY, and if he doesn’t understand that, he’s been hit on the head too many times and is due for mandatory retirement.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around what was so divisive regarding Trumps statements? It’s a bunch of entitled cry babies that can bare hearing the truth. If any of us average Joe’s protested on company time, or if we had a contract that said we couldn’t do certain things on the job, but did so any way, we’d be fired and rightfully so. I just don’t get it... #makecommonsensecoolagain

Excellent point! One that needs to be made loudly and often.... and needs to be on every thread here for a start.

But you don’t really believe “it is a tribute to those who commit to serve and protect our country.”

If you did believe it, you would have acted like you did.

I don't think Tomlin is really PO's at Villanueva. I think he was more upset that his well-intentioned plan to maintain team unity didn't work out the way he wanted it to.

I'm sure Tomlin would have preferred to have every player standing respectfully on the sideline. I'm sure of that because that's exactly what Tomlin was doing.

But he also felt that having an empty sideline was preferable to a scene where most players were standing and some were kneeling. I can't fault him for that. I just wish he could be more persuasive -- especially as a black man who did the right thing on the sideline -- with his team.

Someone is advocating the nation be destroyed, and it's your main concern ANY teem needs unity?

To bastardize a Clint Eastwood character's comment, "A man's got to know his limits priorities!

"The idea was to be unified as a team ..."

Reminds me of my favorite scene from a Man for All Seasons:

DUKE OF NORFOLK: But damn it, Thomas, look at those names . . . You know those men! Can't you do what I did, and come with us, for fellowship?

THOMAS MORE: And when we stand before God, and you are sent to Paradise for doing according to your conscience, and I am damned to Hell for not doing according to mine, will you come with me then, for fellowship?

Amazing what the prospect of going back to “Deer Hunter Country” in western PA will do to a man after pulling a stunt like this at a road game in Chicago.
