Karl Rove on NFL Protests: Trump Will Be ‘Walking Away From This a Loser’
Breitbart.com ^ | 24 Sep 2017 | Pam Key

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” network contributor and Republican strategist Karl Rove discussed President Donald Trump criticism of NFL players for taking a knee during the national anthem at games.

According to Rove, Trump would be “walking away” from this controversy a “loser.”

...

“He could have come away from this the winner,” he continued. “But he is walking away from this a loser in the minds of the American people for exactly the reasons you pointed out. He was against the federal government interfering and telling the Washington Redskins what their name should be. Now he is saying fire those people if they do not stand and respect the flag. He ought to be an aspirational figure. He should not be a condemnatory figure.”

[Karl Rove was the architect of GWB’s never-fight-back-even-about-lies losing strategy. Why is he ever on TV?]

The “genius” that nearly lost it the first time and would have lost it the second time without the swift boaters.

I used to have SOME respect for Karl Rove, not any more. If there ever was a Poster Boy for the Establishment, it is Karl Rove.

In the end the job of the team is to win football games with the players they have.

The owners are either going to have to address this or lose an even greater percentage of their audience. The ratings are already on their way down. Once 30% of the fans find a new pastime a lot of them will not be coming back again for a good long time. There will be consequences to this stupidity.

They were on the right path. Ignore it and it goes away, just like last year. Then somebody had to turn it into a massive thing. It’ll still go away though, because the world gets bored.

You might be right. It might very well have gone away this time too... if the players hadn't reacted the way they just did... The Trump haters wanted desperately to use this to try and hurt President Trump. They thought they could paint him as a racist by claiming he was picking on a bunch of the world's dumbest spoiled rotten millionaires. Now it is going to become more of an issue than it was previously. NFL ratings were already on the way down. I guess we are going to find out how much of a hit these clowns can take because it is going to leave a mark if they keep it up. I predict that it isn't going to hurt President Trump at all.

That guy needs more jack stands if he wishes to live longer.

We had a family lumber mill business. One of our employees wanted to use the 15,000 pound fork lift to do some work on the underside of his car. I said sure. The guy jammed 4x4s in the slides of the fork lift so it couldn't drop the car. We all thought it was overkill. The very next day the cap came loose on the top of the hydraulic cylinder and an entire unit of lumber came crashing to the ground.

It will go away this time. And really the Trump haters didn’t have to do anything for this to hurt him. He’s the one who decided to get into a stupid beef with NFL players, call them SOBs and just general act like a an angry child.

But it will go away, because everything ALWAYS goes away. That’s how the news cycle works. Trump will lose interest, the players will lose interest, the audience will lose interest, the news networks will lose interest. The world will move on.

I don't think that you have come to terms with your own feelings on this yet. It is not what President Trump did that is causing the issue here. It is how the Trump hating players have reacted that is causing the problem for the NFL. A high percentage of their fans consider themselves to be patriotic regardless of their feelings for President Trump. That is why they play the National Anthem before the games.

One of our son-in-laws just got a giant Seahawks tattoo on his arm recently. It is still red and swollen. He did it because he has been a “true believer” in the Seahawks. He was extremely upset when we saw him. And I feel very sorry for him because we love him a lot. When you find people like him who are not very political whose lives have been orbiting around professional football very upset about this... I kind of stepped back and took notice because this is cutting much deeper for many people than the typical conflict that President Trump has had with the media over the past few months.

You must have been watching a different speech than I was. Even though what Trump did has upset people that we love... it was actually brilliant on a certain level. One of the most effective ways to get people feeling patriotic is to point out the behavior of a bunch of unpatriotic spoiled rotten rich idiots.

The NFL players opened themselves up to this and the outcome in the short will not be pretty for the NFL. And for the long term... the mask has been blown off the NFL and the players. Previously, it was just a few who were taking all the heat for this crap, but now the whole bunch with very few exceptions have managed to stain their image. Not smart... This is going to leave a much bigger mark than what you are thinking. For some people like our son-in-law, it is literally a long the lines of a woman finding out that her hero husband has been cheating on her. I don't know how much that helps President Trump, but it is a really bad thing for the future of the NFL.

My feelings on this have been pretty well set for over a year:
both sides are a bunch of whiny grandstanding crybabies who need to get the hell over it.

Especially Trump who has yet to get a single piece of legislation to the floor. Really instead of randomly pissing people off for no good reason he needs to start actually being a president.

President Trump has been acting more presidential than anyone since Reagan. He is an actual leader and agent for change. He has been working his butt off. You know as well as I do that the reason no legislation has been passed has absolutely nothing to do with President Trump and everything to do with Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and the rest of the RINO Never-Trumper Swamp Creatures that you appear to love so much.

Only reason he comes close to acting more presidential than anybody is because we’ve had such a crappy crew lately. Sure getting into pointless twitter beefs is slightly better than getting into interns, but it still ain’t presidential.

And the reason he can’t get anything through is because he spent the primaries alienating everybody. He has no allies in Congress because he burned every bridge he could find. And he’s still burning bridges. Look at how he’s campaigning against Moore. I don’t love any of those people, but I understand that if a president wants to get things done he needs to work with them. That’s the job, that’s what makes the job tough. Our government was specifically structured by the founders to breakup populist waves and make people put together coalitions. Whether or not he’s going to have any lasting positive effect on the country is 100% dependent on whether or not he can put together a coalition that passes meaningful legislation.
